Abstract

Exemplary storage network architectures, data architectures, and methods for performing backup operations in a storage network are described. An exemplary method can be implemented in a processor in a storage network. The method comprises: generating a snapshot clone of a source volume at a first point in time; simultaneously activating a first snapshot difference file logically linked to the snapshot clone; recording an I/O operation changing a data set in the source volume to the first snapshot In the differential file; close the first snapshot differential file; after the first point in time, generate a backup copy of the snapshot clone at the second point in time; and after the second point in time, generate the backup copy of the first snapshot differential file at the third point in time Backup copy.
