Abstract

A writing instrument having a writing point that responds to pressure applied during writing through the use of a cushioning element integrally formed with another component of the writing instrument. In a preferred embodiment, a writing implement includes a barrel, a refill with a writing point, and an end plug having a cushioning element integrally formed with the end plug. The cartridge may be retained in the barrel by the cushioning element attached to the proximal end of the barrel. The end plug may be shaped by an injection molding process. The stop element may be arranged such that compression of the cushioning element is inhibited or prevented after a predetermined degree of compression of the cushioning element. The cushioning element may have a variable spring rate.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application is a continuation-in-part of US Patent Application 10 / 389,300, filed March 14, 2003, the entire contents of which are hereby incorporated by reference. technical field [0003] The invention relates to a writing instrument having a cushioning element. More specifically, the present invention relates to a cushioning element at the rear, non-writing end of a writing instrument that allows the writing tip of the writing instrument to respond to forces applied to the writing instrument tip during writing, thereby Provides the user with a certain sense of awareness when writing. Background technique [0004] Typically, writing instruments such as fountain pens have a body within which a cartridge with a writing point is held in place so that a user can write with the writing instrument. With most writing instruments, the writing point maintains a generally rigid relationship with the rest of the instrumen...
