Specifically, the present invention introduces a new type of document into the electronic calendar—"travel document". This is a document type in addition to the standard calendar document types such as appointments, meetings, all-day events, and the like. Each itinerary document contains itinerary information including at least one location transition between time zones. Using a set of one or more of these itinerary documents, the local time zone for each entry in the user's electronic calendar can be determined. The electronic calendar can then use this data to provide local time zone information, so that each entry in the electronic calendar will reflect the local time corresponding to the physical location where the electronic calendar user is scheduled at that time.
