Abstract

An elevator apparatus, wherein a drive force generating unit generating a drive force for lifting a car and a balance weight is installed in a hoistway. The drive force generating unit comprises a thin first drive device having a first drive sheave and a thin second drive device having a second drive sheave. A main rope body suspending the car and the balance weight comprises a first main rope wrapped around the first drive sheave while avoiding the second drive sheave and a second main rope wrapped around the second drive sheave while avoiding the first drive sheave. A part of the first drive device is overlapped with the area of the second drive device within the perpendicularly projected area of the hoistway, and disposed in the outside area of the second drive device within the perpendicularly projected area of the hoistway.
