Trigger mechanism for firearms with self-loading actions

InactiveUS20070051236A1No undesirable noise and motionSafety arrangementFiring/trigger mechanismsSemi automaticEngineering
The trigger mechanism allows the firearm to operate in a closed-bolt mode during semi-automatic fire and in an open-bolt mode during automatic fire. The mode change occurs only after the first round is discharged after the selector has been moved instead of when the selector switch is moved, thus avoiding undesirable mechanism noise or motion at the time of selecting the firing mode.

Systems and methods for immobilizing using plural energy stores

An electronic disabling device includes first and second electrodes positionable to establish first and second spaced apart contact points on a target having a high impedance air gap existing between at least one of the electrodes and the target. The power supply generates a first high voltage, short duration output across the first and second electrodes during a first time interval to ionize air within the air gap to thereby reduce the high impedance across the air gap to a lower impedance to enable current flow across the air gap at a lower voltage level. The power supply next generates a second lower voltage, longer duration output across the first and second electrodes during a second time interval to maintain the current flow across the first and second electrodes and between the first and second contact points on the target to enable the current flow through the target to cause involuntary muscle contractions to thereby immobilize the target.

Fire control mechanism for a firearm

A firearm includes a frame and a slide. A firing mechanism for the firearm includes a striker-type firing pin, a trigger, and a trigger bar. A sear inside the frame is pivotally balanced about a central fulcrum, and is biased in a first pivotal direction by a spring. In this position, a rear portion of the sear engages the firing pin. Actuation of the trigger causes the trigger bar to move rearwards for engagement of a forward portion of the sear. This pivots the sear in a second pivotal direction, against the spring, which releases the firing pin. The spring then causes the sear to pivot back for reengaging the firing pin when it returns to its rear position. Movement of the slide to a retired position causes the trigger bar to disengage from the sear (preventing discharge of the firearm) until the slide returns to a battery position.
