A multi-display system includes a host system that supports both graphics and video based frames for multiple remote displays, multiple users or a combination of the two. For each display and for each frame, a multi-display processor responsively manages each necessary aspect of the remote display frame. The necessary portions of the remote display frame are further processed, encoded and where necessary, transmitted over a network to the remote display for each user. In some embodiments, the host system manages a remote desktop protocol and can still transmit encoded video or encoded frame information where the encoded video may be generated within the host system or provided from an external program source. A system for allocating a different class of service to each network connection in a plurality of network connections, where each network connection corresponds to one or more virtual channels. The system can include a plurality of virtual channels that connect a first computer and a second computer. Each virtual channel can service at least a portion of the network traffic generated using a remote-display protocol. The system can also include a plurality of network connections, where each network connection corresponds to at least one of the virtual channels. Each network connection of the system can have an assigned port number and an assigned class of service that corresponds to a transmission priority level. The class of service assigned to each network connection can be unique from the classes of service assigned to other network connections.

Disclosed are systems and methods for creating and distributing programming content carried by a digital streaming media to be a plurality of remote nodes located over a large geographic area to create customized broadcast quality programming at the remote nodes. At the remote nodes, a multi-window screen display simultaneously shows different programming including national programming and local programming content. The present invention relates to novel combinations of apparatus and methods useful for remotely displaying and distributing video advertising and emergency information via a satellite or other wireless system. Specifically, the present invention provides a satellite system to display and distribute video advertisements and emergency information to remote locations. The present invention further relates to a method for selecting advertising and emergency information to display on the satellite system. The present invention also relates to a system for displaying such information on shopping carts.

Embodiments include implementing a remote display system (either wired or wireless) using a standard, non-custom codec. In this system, the decoder side can be fully implemented using an existing standard from a decode/display point of view and using a single stream type. The encoder side includes a pre-processing component that analyzes screen images comprising the video data to determine an amount of difference between consecutive frames of the screen images, divides each screen image into a plurality of regions, including no change regions, high quality regions, and low quality regions. The pre-processor characterizes each region as requiring a minimum quality level, encodes the low quality regions for compression in accordance with the H.264 encoding standard; and encodes the high quality regions using the lossless compression scheme of the H.264 standard. A no change region is encoded using a version of the H.264 encoding standard that adaptively and dynamically selects between lossless and lossy compression in a manner that optimizes efficiency of the compression operation.

A media content distribution and display system and method that includes a central server, a plurality of remote display devices, and an electronic network for communicating therebetween. The plurality of remote display devices receive via the electronic network or local peripheral device the media content. A system and method are disclosed for improving the remote display of graphics images by the redirection of rendering and the optional use of image data compression. Instead of sending graphics commands over a network and rendering on a remote computer system, graphics commands may be automatically redirected by modified OpenGL functions to local graphics devices without explicit involvement by the graphics application. The modifications to a set of the OpenGL functions on the local system are transparent in the normal mode of rendering and displaying locally. After an image is rendered locally, it may be read back and sent across the network. A standard X Server on the remote system may be sufficient to support this methodology. An X Extension for data decompression on the remote system, however, may allow for more efficient image transmission through the use of image data compression.

Remote display protocol traffic associated with a new application not previously included in a list of predetermined applications may be parsed for application information, and the new application may be added to the application list. A system and method processes graphics data for remote display.
