261 results about "Groin" patented technology

In human anatomy, the groin (the adjective is inguinal, as in inguinal canal) is the junctional area (also known as the inguinal region) between the abdomen and the thigh on either side of the pubic bone. This is also known as the medial compartment of the thigh that consists of the adductor muscles of the hip or the groin muscles. A pulled groin muscle usually refers to a painful injury sustained by straining the hip adductor muscles.

Hernia repair mesh prosthesis, and method of using same

A hernia repair prosthetic element includes: a central portion which covers a hernia opening within a patient; plural support portions integrally connected about a periphery of the central portion for securing the central portion in covering relation to the hernia opening; the prosthetic element, including the central and support portions, being a substantially planar member formed of flexible mesh material; the support portions being foldable relative to the central portion so that the prosthetic element can be selectively manipulated between folded and unfolded shapes; the support portions being adapted to securely engage various components of the patient's body surrounding the hernia opening; and openings are formed through the central portion for passage of fluid therethrough. The prosthetic element has only two basic shapes, one for use in relation to all groin hernias and one for use in relation to all abdominal hernias. The flexible mesh material may be of propylene or other suitable materials, the central portion has an enhanced strength, such as being formed of two layers of the mesh material, and the central portion may be stretchable to absorb greater forces imposed thereon.

Inguinal hernia repair prosthetic

A suture-less, tension free, one-piece, double layer, inguinal hernia repair prosthetic is preferably formed of a single piece or sheet of repair fabric, such as polypropylene mesh, PTFE mesh, biologic material, or combinations thereof. The prosthetic sheet preferably includes a fold line dividing the sheet into two general halves. Each prosthetic half of the prosthetic sheet is preferably shaped generally to fit within the inguinal canal. Each prosthetic half of the sheet includes an opening in the inner portion of the sheet and a slit extending to the peripheral portion of the prosthetic half. The slits extend to generally opposite side of the prosthetic. Each opening is adapted to receive a patient's spermatic cord structure there through.

Devices and methods are disclosed for achieving hemostasis in patients who have received skin-penetrating wounds to the body in regions such as the shoulder, pelvis, neck, or groin, where standard bandages are difficult to apply and where large blood vessels exist which can hemorrhage severely. Such haemostatic packing devices and methods are especially useful in the emergency, trauma surgery, or military setting. The devices utilize packing pillows that are held in place by rigid structures that can cause the packing pillows to be brought into the wounds and be held in place while the packing pillows are inflated to fill the wounds, prevent bleeding, and tamponade hemorrhaging large blood vessels exposed therein.

Device For Control of Difficult to Compress Hemorrhage

Bleeding from blood vessels located in difficult-to-compress regions of the body (especially the abdomen, pelvic or groin region) is controlled by the use of a portable, small-footprint belt-like device that contains multiple inflatable bladders. The inflatable bladders are selectively positioned and inflated over exsanguinating blood vessels, thereby exerting pressure to stop the bleeding. The device may also be used to provide perfusion support in low flow disease states such as hemorrhagic shock and cardiac arrest.

Intravascular cannulation apparatus and methods of use

This invention is a cannulation apparatus, and related methods for providing indirect access to a surgical site within a patient. The cannulation apparatus includes at least two fluid flow paths that are slidable coupled (40) (50) to one another, and selectively positional within the patient. The first, the second flow path s may be advanced through a single incision disposed remotely from the surgical field to first, and second predetermined locations within the patient. Exemplary sites for the incision include the groin region or in the neck region of the patient. The cannulation apparatus, and method of the present invention are particularly suited for use in providing cardiopulmonary support during cardiac surgery, including coronary artery bypass graft surgery. The cannulation apparatus of the present invention also provides an entry site for one or more support devices used in the surgical procedure.

Laparoscopic inguinal hernia prosthesis

An improved composite prosthesis for laparoscopic repair of inguinal or femoral hernias, and also for the laparoscopic repair of large incisional ventral hernias incorporates two different layers, namely an upper layer made of polypropylene mesh to promote tissue ingrowth, and a lower layer formed with an adhesion barrier material to prevent adhesions to the intestines. Both layers are secured together with a highly visible dark seam at the perimeter of the prosthesis to assist the surgeon in visualizing the peripheral edge. The lower layer is slightly larger than the polypropylene mesh so there is an adhesion barrier edge around the prosthesis to conceal the edges of the polypropylene mesh. The upper layer includes a guiding cone to facilitate placement of the prosthesis at the exact center of the hernial defect. The base of this cone is attached to the central part of the prosthesis, and the apex of the cone will be attached later to a guiding thread that is inserted to from the outside of the abdomen using a long straight needle through the skin and hernial sac. Furthermore the laparoscopic hernia prosthesis lower layer is provided with a bounding rim to guide the tip of the spiral tacker to the very edges of the prosthesis in order to stretch the prosthesis in place, and also to conceal the staples or tacks.

Wrestling doll

InactiveUS6155904AOptimal workoutEffectively muscledDollsSelf-moving toy figuresCompressible materialShoulder region
A wrestling doll which functions as an exerciser for a boy playing with the doll and as a surrogate for a wrestling opponent. The doll is composed of a head joined by its neck to a torso from whose shoulder region extend a pair of articulated arm appendages and from whose groin region extends a pair of articulated leg appendages. The wrestling doll is stuffed with compressible material so that it may be comfortably grappled with by the boy player. The head of the doll is spring-biased to resist displacement as are each of the arm and leg appendages. Hence when a boy player free-style wrestles with the doll by manipulating the head as well as the leg and arm appendages, the player exerts various sets of muscles to do so, thereby promoting his general state of fitness.

Multi-panelled protective undergarment

A protective undergarment (10), shown in the form of shorts, includes integrally formed protective panels (22, 26, 30) that exhibit slash-proof properties. The protective areas (22, 26, 30) are made from a flexible Kevlar® knit or the like, and extend to cover the groin, crotch, substantial areas of the buttocks and the inner thigh regions of both legs. The protective panels (22, 26, 30) are externally snitched to a low thermal burden material (18, 20), such as a polyester mesh, that provides elasticity and completes the structure of the shorts (10). The Kevlar® knit is flexible and preferably lies directly against the skin of a user to provide blast wave and ballistic fragment deflection whilst permitting mobility in a lightweight arrangement. Varying thickness of the Kevlar® knit can be used in the protective areas (22, 26, 30) selectively to enhance protection against blast wave and fragment penetration. The shorts (10) find particular application in battlefield theatres where military personnel are exposed to bomb threats.

Absorbent article

An absorbent article worn in the groin area, in which, when a compressive force is received from a lateral direction, a main absorbent region can oppose an excretion area of a wearer's body without twists or wrinkles occurring, and when the compressive force is relaxed, the article easily recovers to its original shape. An absorbent body provided in the absorbent article has a main absorbent region, reinforcing regions, and buffer regions. The bending stiffness of the reinforcing regions is larger than that of the buffer regions, and the bending stiffness of the main absorbent region is larger than that of the buffer regions. When compressive force is received from a wearer's thigh areas in the lateral direction, the reinforcing regions that are positioned to the left and right deform in a curved shape, and the buffer regions that are to the left and right are compressed. As a result, the main absorbent region does not easily deform, and the main absorbent region can have a tight fit to the excretion area of the wearer's body in a non-deformed state.
