Embodiment Construction

[0030] figure 1 A fire ring 10 is shown mating with a surrounding pipe, conduit, conduit or the like 14 . The fire ring 10 includes a housing 12 having a passage 16 extending therethrough in which a PVC conduit 14 is located.

[0031] Inside the housing 12, two springs 18, 20 are also arranged. The springs 18 , 20 are substantially identical and are located within the housing 12 at opposite sides of the channel 16 . Each spring 18, 20 is preferably a compression spring. The spring 18 is pivotally mounted on a spring mount 22 and the spring 20 is pivotally mounted on a spring mount 24 . One end 26 of spring 18 is permanently restrained from rotational movement about mount 22 by housing 12 and one end 28 of spring 20 is permanently restrained from rotational movement about mount 24 by housing 12 .

[0032] The other end 30 of the spring 18 is extended to form an arm and the other end 32 of the spring 20 is also extended to form an arm. The arm 30 is supported in place again...

Abstract

A fire protection ring (10) for installation in a concrete slab (46) around a deformable conduit (14) having a housing with a channel (16) through which the conduit (14) passes channel (16). The fire ring (10) has a housing (12) in which are arranged two compression springs (18, 20) with arms (30, 32), wherein the arms are passed through a fusible link (34 , 36) is maintained against the elastic force of the spring (18, 20). When the heat of the fire on one side of the concrete slab (46) softens or melts the fusible link (34, 36), the force of the spring (18, 20) forces the spring arm (30, 32) toward the conduit (14 ) is rotated so as to engage and collapse the catheter (14). An intumescent layer (42) may be positioned around the catheter (14) to assist in its collapse.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a device for preventing the spread of fire from an obstacle, such as a wall, floor, partition or the like in structure, to the other side through ductwork or ducts extending through the obstacle . In particular, the present invention relates primarily to a new construction of fire protection rings within the concrete slabs forming the floors and walls of multi-storey buildings. Background technique [0002] There are generally two types of devices used to prevent the spread of fire through pipes, conduits or ducts in walls, floors, partitions and the like. Flame stoppers are usually located within the barrier and attached to the ductwork or delivery pipe. They include passages which may be closed by valve means when fire on one side of the obstruction triggers a heat detector in the flame arrester. An example of a flame stop of this type is described in WO03 / 023267A1. [0003] Firestop rings are commonly used with p...
