A dishwasher which can improve the space utilization of the wash basin by enlarging the wash basin. The dishwasher comprises: a washing basin; a sump installed in the washing basin for containing and pumping washing water; a sump housing forming the shape of the sump; a washing impeller for pumping washing water from the sump housing; a drainage passage arranged at the inner edge of the sump casing; a pump motor surrounded by the drainage pump for driving the washing impeller; and a pump motor accommodating portion accommodating the pump motor. The pump motor accommodating portion protrudes above the drain passage, wherein the pump motor accommodating portion is formed at the bottom of the sump housing, and the pump motor accommodating portion includes a lower portion of an opening through which the lower pump motor is received. inserted into and mounted on the pump motor accommodating part; and the lower part of the sump and the upper part of the pump motor overlap by a predetermined height, thereby reducing the height of the assembly of the sump and the pump motor.
