The battery lockingmechanism includes a battery mounting section ( 25 ) provided on a back surface side of an image pickup apparatus ( 1 ) for removably receiving a battery ( 24 ) thereon, a locking member ( 140 ) disposed along a rear surface side of the battery mounting section ( 25 ) and partly projecting to a battery mounting surface of the battery mounting section ( 25 ) for engaging with the battery ( 24 ) mounted on the battery mounting section ( 25 ) to lock the battery ( 24 ), and an unlocking member ( 150 ) disposed for sliding movement in a direction perpendicular to the battery mounting surface of the battery mounting section ( 25 ) for engaging with the locking member ( 140 ) to release the locking of the battery ( 24 ). The locking member ( 140 ) and the unlocking member ( 150 ) are disposed inan L shape.
