Embodiment Construction

[0017] To facilitate reusability not only of code but of the entire business logic, data must be able to be sent to, and data must be accessed from, the business logic of the legacy software program. However, if the UI layer is integrated with the business logic layer, there is no way in the art to separate the code for access to the business logic. An advantage of an embodiment of the present invention is that it uses an intermediary that acts as a surrogate user, mapping the user's input from the new first interface to the older, second interface. The intermediary then sends the data or messages returned from the older second interface back to the new interface logic to create a new third interface display for operation by the user. In this way, new UIs can be developed while being able to access older business logic.

[0018] Embodiments of the invention may take advantage of the new UI if they include an arrangement for receiving input data from the first user interface. ...

Abstract

A method, system, computer readable medium containing instructions to execute a method for an intermediary, such as a controller, to interact between the interface of an older application and a newly programmed UI in order to take advantage of existing transactional logic while still allowing a user to interface with a new UI.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to mapping a new user interface to an existing integrated interface. Background technique [0002] Software programs often go through many version cycles. Typically, new releases provide maintenance upgrades, such as security enhancements that fix bugs. New versions can also provide substantial changes, such as modifying the user interface (UI) or modifying back-end processing or functionality, that will not be noticed by the user even while processing. For example, current enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems help automate business practices by using sophisticated business logic on the back end and dynamic user interfaces on the front end. These ERP systems are highly adaptable to specific business practices and often change to reflect changes in the business environment or changes in the specific type of business the software is designed for. However, in some cases, older "legacy" software contains the functiona...
