Embodiment 1

[0057] Figure 1A with 1B Photographs are shown of the appearance of the lower eyelid before and after treatment by the method and device of the invention, as an example of the effective treatment provided by the invention.

[0058] Laser energy is delivered directly into the subcutaneous tissue through disposable optical fibers. The tissue is composed of adipose and structural tissue moistened by arterioles, veins, and lymph. In this lower eyelid, the laser was pulsed 20 to 30 times at a power of 4W, delivering 8 Joules per pulse for 2 seconds.

[0059] The radiation from the 980nm laser is selectively absorbed by the subcutaneous tissue surrounded by saline solution. The fat film is destroyed by thermal effect (radiation at 980nm is well absorbed by water). For example, with 15 watts for 3 seconds (45 Joules), the temperature on the fiber tip reaches approximately 100°C, which is transmitted by tumescent anesthesia diffusion and reduces the temperature to 70°C ± 10°C. It...

Embodiment 2

[0061] Figure 5A and 5B The appearance of the back area before and after treatment by the method and apparatus of the present invention is shown by photographs as an example of the effective treatment provided by the present invention.

[0062] Laser energy is delivered directly into the subcutaneous tissue through disposable optical fibers. The tissue is composed of adipose and structural tissue moistened by arterioles, veins, and lymph. In the chest area, the laser was pulsed more than 70 times at a power of 12 W with 36 joules per pulse for 3 seconds.

[0063] The radiation from the 980nm laser is selectively absorbed by the subcutaneous tissue surrounded by saline solution. The fat film is destroyed by thermal effect (radiation at 980nm is well absorbed by water). For example, with 15 watts for 3 seconds (45 Joules), the temperature on the fiber tip reaches approximately 100°C, which is transmitted by tumescent anesthesia diffusion and reduces the temperature to 70°...

Embodiment 3

[0065] Figure 6A and 6B Photographs are shown of the appearance of the outer thigh before and after treatment by the method and apparatus of the present invention, as an example of the effective treatment provided by the present invention.

[0066] Laser energy is delivered directly into the subcutaneous tissue through disposable optical fibers. The tissue is composed of adipose and structural tissue moistened by arterioles, veins, and lymph. In the thigh and buttocks region, the laser was pulsed at least 70 times at a power of 15 W with 30 Joules per pulse for 2 seconds.

[0067] The radiation from the 980nm laser is selectively absorbed by the subcutaneous tissue surrounded by saline solution. The fat film is destroyed by thermal effect (radiation at 980nm is well absorbed by water). For example, with 15 watts for 3 seconds (45 Joules), the temperature on the fiber tip reaches approximately 100°C, which is transmitted by tumescent anesthesia diffusion and reduces the ...

Abstract

A method and device (100) for cosmetic surgery, especially fat reduction and collagen reformation, by means of a high power laser operating at about 980 nm is presented. The cosmetic surgery method substantially reduces or removes localized lipodystrophies, and essentially reduces flaccidity by localized laser heating of adipose tissue using an optical fiber (102) inserted into a treatment area. The method and device (100) are particularly well suited for treating Lipodystrophies with flaccidity High power laser energy is applied to ''fat'' cells to breakdown the cell walls releasing the cellfluid. The laser radiation is applied through an optical fiber (100), which may be held within a catheter-like device having a single lumen. The optical fiber may have a diffuser mounted on the tip tofurther apply heating to tissues surrounding the whole tip. A saline solution may also be inserted into the treatment site to aid in the heating of the fat cells and their eventual destruction as well as their removal. The pool of cell fluid in the area of treatment is removed by a combination of techniques including allowing the body to remove it by absorption and drainage from the entry sites thus minimizing trauma to the area of treatment and hastening recovery. Additional techniques to remove the cell fluid include direct force application by means of elastic bandages and external suctionapplied to the entry sites. Quick and lasting cosmetic changes, even in areas having prior untreatable fat tissues, are achieved while minimizing trauma to the treatment areas.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] Domestic Priority under 35USC 119(e). This application claims the benefit of US Provisional Application Serial No. 60 / 678,096, filed May 5, 2005, which is hereby incorporated by reference. technical field [0003] The present invention relates to the field of cosmetic surgery, in particular laser surgery, to remove excess fat cells in areas of the body that tend to accumulate adipocyte tissue, and further, these areas cannot be permanently removed by exercise and / or diet. Background technique [0004] It is a well-known fact that modern society has created an abundance of readily available food, known as "fast food," and has also created an environment in which entertainment has fostered a sedentary lifestyle, such as while eating high-calorie snacks, Watch TV, play video games and chat on the phone. This makes people gain excess weight by increasing fat tissue, fat cells. Certain genetic conditions have also furthe...
