Abstract

The present invention relates to automatic intranet service publication and service access. The present invention provides automatic publication and retrieval in a computer networking community based on a Small Area Adaptive Network (SWAN) type network. Each computer is installed with a program that automatically scans data items in its computer environment for a unique ID based on a UID template. For each data item found that contains a UID, a data record is generated that includes the UID associated with the network address of the data item. If permitted by the ruleset, the node is identified by a (hashed) UID, or by adding the network address of the data item to the list of public IDs of existing nodes identified by the same UID. The network publishes the data record. A search request for a UID will find a node and get all network addresses in its list, enabling the requester to send a get request for each corresponding data item.
