Abstract

To provide a digital camera provided with an object identification function with ease of use whose operation is close to that of conventional cameras by means of adoption of a novel operating sequence by solving a task not achieved by cameras of prior arts with the object identification function. The digital camera is provided with: a setting means for setting a mode of the digital camera to a consecutive shot mode wherein an object image is continuously photographed or to any of the other photographing modes; an extract means for extracting a prescribed characteristic part from photographing image data; and a control means for controlling the extract means so as not to extract the prescribed characteristic part for a prescribed period when the setting means sets the consecutive shot mode. That is, the arithmetic cycle of AF and AE operations can be carried out by the same cycle of prior arts by stopping the extraction in the case of carrying out consecutive shots.
