Embodiment Construction

[0018] Some embodiments provide a CPAP device and method with reduced size, improved performance, and / or other benefits with respect to the patient. Preferred embodiments of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein like reference numerals refer to like parts throughout.

[0019] figure 1 is a perspective view of a patient using a CPAP device according to one embodiment of the present invention. Apparatus 10 includes a generator body 12 containing a positive pressure flow from a supply hose 14 . The supply hose 14 is pressurized by an unillustrated pneumatic device. The generator body 12 is also connected to a pressure measurement hose (which supplies patient pressure back to the pressure generator and is used for patient pressure control and display of accurate patient pressure measurements) 15 . as in Figure 2 to Figure 4 As seen in , in the preferred embodiment the hoses used for the hoses 14 and 15 do not have a circular ...

Abstract

The present invention discloses a continuous positive airway pressure system, characterized in that a housing of an airway chamber, an air pressure inlet and an air pressure outlet are formed. The housing further defines internally a pair of tapered air jets, and a pair of tapered air receivers. The air receivers are located downstream of the air supply jets and disposed coaxially with respectiveones of the air supply jets. Each receiver has a taper in an opposite direction to the direction of the taper of the air supply jets. A pair of nasal prongs is located downstream of the air receivingjets.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to airway pressure devices for supplying compressed air for use in the field of respiratory therapy, and more particularly the invention relates to devices and methods for providing positive airway pressure to nasal cannulae of humans or, in particular, infants. Background technique [0002] In the field of respiratory therapy, it is known to provide continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) systems and methods for delivering continuous positive airway pressure through a nasal cannula to a human, especially an infant. This is especially true in the case of premature infants who frequently experience the increased work of breathing due to underdeveloped lungs that have the tendency to fail during exhalation and resist inflation during inhalation Propensity. [0003] A particular method of treatment involves the use of nasal cannulae fitted sealingly in the nostrils and connected to a respiratory system that produces a con...
