Embodiment Construction

[0035] Although the invention may be embodied in different forms, it is considered that this disclosure is to be considered as an illustration of the principles of the invention, and not intended to limit the invention to what has been shown and described herein. Certain embodiments are shown in the figures and will be described in detail herein.

[0036] A particular embodiment of the present invention includes a fluid displacement device 200, except that the nut member 80 and coupling members 102, 104 of the device of the '959 patent are replaced with an integral coupling 202, nut member 204, and pivot pin 206. The displacement device 200 utilizes all the same components of the device disclosed in US Patent No. 6,796,959. As such, the entire contents of US Patent No. 6,796,959 are hereby incorporated by reference.

[0037] like Figure 4-6 As shown, a fluid displacement device 200 according to certain embodiments of the present invention has a fluid displacement chamber 21...

Abstract

A fluid displacement device (200), particularly for use of the device (200) to pressurize balloon catheters, or the like. The device (200) includes a plunger (238) which is displaceable through a housing (208), and an actuating mechanism (246) which engages the plunger (238). The actuating mechanism (246) includes a nut member (204) that is biased into engagement with a threaded portion (279) of the plunger (238). The device (200) has a press-to-release feature wherein the plunger (238) is instantly releaseable by simply depressing a toggle lever (280) of the nut member (204) to overcome a restorative spring force. Subsequently, the plunger (238) can be translated using macro movements (i.e., by pushing or pulling the plunger (238)).

Description

[0001] Related Applications (Priority Claims) [0002] This application claims the benefit of US Provisional Application No. 61 / 114,192, filed November 13, 2008, which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety. technical field [0003] This invention relates to fluid pressurization devices for balloon catheters and the like, and more particularly to an improved device for actuating a screw plunger and monitoring the resulting fluid pressure. Background technique [0004] Fluid pressurization devices adapted to selectively apply and relieve measured pressures across enclosed fluid spaces have been developed for balloon catheters used in intravascular balloon angioplasty procedures or other types of balloon catheter insertion procedures Expansion and deflation. For example, US Patent No. 4,838,864 discloses a syringe device that inflates and deflates a catheterization balloon. The device uses a manually operated screw plunger to achieve or maintain a specific ballo...
