[0024] figure 2 The registration of the UE with the network according to the prior art is shown and includes a successful call to the application server based on the iFC in the user profile. image 3 A corresponding flowchart 100 is shown. At step 101, the UE 11 sends a REGISTER request to the P-CSCF 15 to initiate the registration procedure. At step 102, the P-CSCF 15 forwards the REGISTER request to the I-CSCF 16. The I-CSCF 16 queries the HSS 13 with a User Authorization Request (UAR) to determine the S-CSCF 17 that will serve the UE 11 (step 103). The HSS 13 responds to the I-CSCF 16 with a User Authorization Answer (UAA) that includes the information needed to determine the S-CSCF 17 that will serve the UE 11 (step 104). The I-CSCF 16 forwards the REGISTER request to the appropriate S-CSCF 17 (step 105). The S-CSCF (17) queries the HSS 13 with a Multimedia Authorization Request (MAR) to obtain authentication information for the UE 11 (step 106). The HSS 13 responds ...

Abstract

In an Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), a user profile is provided with an extended schema that provides one or more error code definitions and associated error handling instructions. Response codes received in response to requests to an application server are processed to determine if a matching response code is defined in the user profile. If a match is found, the associated response handling instructions are performed. If no match is found, a default response handling is performed.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to the Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), and more particularly to enhanced response handling on IMS networks. Background technique [0002] The IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), defined by 3GPP, converges telephony and Internet technologies by providing the telecommunications industry with an all-IP-based architecture. IMS is based on the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) and makes extensive use of protocols defined within the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). The system provides a network of servers and databases that assist user agents in the task of establishing and managing sessions. IMS uses the term "session" because connections between users are no longer limited to voice services (ie telephone calls). A session can be voice, video, text, or other services that connect two or more user agents together. [0003] like figure 1 As shown, a typical IMS architecture 10 includes a user equipment (UE) 11...
