Embodiment Construction

[0030] figure 1 A simple schematic diagram illustrating the components used to install fiber using the blown fiber technique. At the head end of the device is a blowing head (2) comprising mechanical drive means, which pushes the fiber optic unit or cable into the tube or duct (6) towards the distal end. The blowing head is assisted in this task by compressed air fed into the duct by means of an air compressor (4), so that the optical fiber units inside the duct are blown at least partially through the duct. Secure the "porous stone" (8) to the distal end of the pipe. The porous stone comprises a barrier of porous compressed granular material which allows the passage of air but prevents continuous advancement of the fiber optic unit beyond the barrier.

[0031] As noted above, conventional processing involves a first engineer operating the blower tip and compressor at the head end and a second engineer at the distal end. The second engineer signals (10) back to the first en...

Abstract

A device for detecting a flow of air from an exit end of a tube fed into an entrance end of the tube, comprising a bore having a first section with a first size bore size and a second section with a second bore size, an obstruction located within the bore between the first section and the second section, the obstruction configured to obstruct air flowing from the first section to the second section, and fixing means to fix the device to the tube so that the bore communicates with the exit end of the tube, wherein in use, an air pressure sensor is used to compare air pressure within the first bore section and air pressure within the second bore section, so that a pressure differential is indicative of an air flow within the bore.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to the installation of cables such as fiber optic units, wires, cables and the like. More particularly, but not exclusively, the present invention relates to blowing fiber optic unit cables through pre-laid conduit. Background technique [0002] Optical fibers are widely used in telecommunications systems for high-speed information transmission. A fiber optic unit, which may include a single fiber or a bundle of fibers, is typically installed into a protective light duct that includes fiber optic tubes that have been laid along the desired route, typically as a Facilitates continuous spans between access points. [0003] In this specification, where the context permits, reference to "cable" shall include individual optical fibers and optical fiber units as well as cables including such optical fibers and optical fiber units. "Conduit" shall include a plurality of tubes and tube bores, but generally refers to a route or ...
