Abstract

Embodiments of the invention relates to an elevator, which has a brake device for braking a car so as to prohibit the reduction in working efficiency. The elevator provided by the embodiments comprises an operation circuit (3) for operating the brake device (2) and a control device (10) for controlling the brake device (2). The operation circuit (3) comprises a first contact (5a) and a second contact (5b) in serial connection, a first power supply sensing part (6a) which connects the first contact (5a) and the second contact (5b) and connects the brake device (2) and a brake power supply device (4) so as to sense a power supply, and a second power supply sensing part (6b) which connects the second contact (5b) and the brake device (2) and connects the bake device (2) and the brake power supply device (4) so as to sense a power supply. The control device (10) comprises output parts (12a, 12b) which send on / off instructions to the first contact (5a), input parts (11a-11c) to which information on states of the first power supply sensing part (6a) and so on is inputted, and a judging part (13) for judging whether the state of the operation circuit (3) and so on is normal based on the information inputted to the input parts (11a-11c).
