Embodiment 1

[0079] Example 1: Binary composition with 13 wt% gelatin based on powder weight (10 wt% gelatin based on cement weight)

[0080] Powder phase (weight%)

[0081]

[0082]

[0083] Liquid phase (weight%)

[0084] MMA 99

[0085] DMPT 1

[0086] HQ 20ppm

[0087] Among them, P / L=3.4

[0088] Final Young's modulus = 1000MPa

Embodiment 2

[0089] Example 2: Binary composition with 25% gelatin by weight of powder (20% gelatin by weight of cement)

[0090] Powder phase (weight%)

[0091]

[0092] Liquid phase (weight%)

[0093] MMA 99

[0094] DMPT 1

[0095] HQ 20ppm

[0096] Among them, P / L=4

[0097] Final Young's modulus = 500MPa

Embodiment 3

[0098] Example 3: Method of preparing bone cement with suitable stiffness

[0099] ·Powder composition:

[0100] The powder phase is obtained by mixing the ingredients.

[0101] ·Liquid components:

[0102] The liquid phase was prepared by dissolving hydroquinone in methyl methacrylate monomer. Keep stirring until completely dissolved. Then add DMPT.

[0103] The two phases are packaged separately in containers suitable for their storage. The ready-to-use kit comprises a container containing said liquid phase and a container containing said powder phase.

[0104] · Binary composition

[0105] During use in the operating room, the containers are opened and their contents mixed together. The powder dissolves rapidly in the liquid phase to obtain a fluid mixture which is injected through a suitable catheter into the patient's vertebral body. The BPO initiator and DMPT activator react to form free radicals that initiate polymerization of the cement. The surgeon then has at ...

Abstract

The invention relates to an injectable bone cement for filling bones, having mechanical properties equivalent to those of the vertebral spongy bone, and containing 70 to 99 wt % of an acrylic polymer combined with a radio-opaque inorganic compound and 1 to 30 wt % of calibrated hydrophilic flexible solid particles capable of absorbing physiological fluids without generating interconnected porosity, said calibrated hydrophilic flexible solid particles being selected from gelatine, polyglycerol(sebacate), or a mixture thereof. The bone cement of the invention is in particular intended for vertebroplasty, kyphoplasty or cementoplasty.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to the field of polymeric cements, particularly acrylic cements, for repairing bone and joint wounds. Background technique [0002] The object of the present invention is to provide a fluid cement for medical use having mechanical properties suitable for filling cancellous bone tissue, and a binary composition intended for the preparation of such a cement. [0003] Bone cements have been used for many years to facilitate the fixation of artificial implants to the framework. A cement used as a link between bone and implant must meet a number of requirements. Specifically, it must be non-toxic and biocompatible. Even some cements have been studied for their bioactive properties, ie their effect on promoting adhesion and cell growth on implants. [0004] Beginning in the mid-1980s, the use of cement has been extended to bone repair, first with percutaneous vertebroplasty. This minimally invasive technique allows cement to...
