Embodiment Construction

[0047] Hereinafter, several typical implementations (hereinafter referred to as "embodiments") of the magnetic tape storage system of the present invention will be described through connection of hosts. These embodiments are illustrative rather than limiting embodiments of the magnetic tape storage system of the present invention.

[0048] In the present invention, by using two tape drives that perform the RABF function with one tape drive, it is possible to omit writing due to movement of the magnetic head accompanying the rewriting operation. The present invention is a tape storage system comprising at least 2 tape drives, the tape storage system is connected to a host. A tape drive performs overwrite writing in the RABF function. Call this one drive the 'R drive'. In another drive, BF writing is performed according to the host's synchronous request. This one drive is referred to as the 'BF drive'. In the magnetic tape storage system of the present invention, since these...

Abstract

There is provided a tape recording apparatus system capable of improving writing performance and maintaining tape recording density, for a multiple data writing request accompanied by a lot of synchronization requests from a host. The system is a tape storage system including two or more tape drives each of which has a tape mounted thereon and is provided with a buffer divided in fixed-length segments, and connected to a host that sends multiple data and a synchronization request at a predetermined timing to these tape drives. This tape recording system is provided with: a tape drive connected to the host, receiving the multiple data sent from the host, and, when the segment of the buffer is accumulated and filled with data, writing the accumulated data onto a tape; and another tape drive connected to the tape drive, receiving the multiple data sent from the host via the tape drive, and dumping a predetermined number of data accumulated in the segments onto a tape at a timing of receiving the synchronization request.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a magnetic tape storage system including a plurality of magnetic tape recording devices which improve writing performance in the case where the frequency of writing and synchronizing requests for a plurality of data from a host is high. Background technique [0002] When a tape recording device (hereinafter referred to as tape drive, drive) writes data on a tape medium (hereinafter referred to as tape or tape medium), the drive does not immediately write the data transferred from the host. The drive temporarily stores it in a buffer inside the drive and does not begin writing until a sufficient amount of data has accumulated. [0003] figure 1 Indicates the correspondence between the buffer and the written data (data set) on the tape. [0004] The buffer 120 forms a ring divided by fixed-length segments (segments) 20 . A plurality of variable-length data 10 transferred from the host is sequentially accumulated in seg...
