Embodiment Construction

[0021] figure 1 A wireless communication system 10 configured to support relay services is depicted. System 10 includes a base station 20 , a relay node 30 and one or more mobile terminals 40 .

[0022] The relay node 30 is configured to relay communications between the base station 20 and the mobile terminal 40 . Relayed communications may include control signaling as well as actual data. Regardless, relay node 30 receives communications from base station 20 over radio link 12 and relays at least some of those communications to mobile terminal 40 over radio link 14 . Other communications (eg, certain control signaling) received from the base station 20 may actually be destined for the relay node 30 itself and thus not be relayed.

[0023] Correspondingly, the base station 20 includes an interface 22 . The interface 22 is an interface towards the relay node 30 and is configured to communicate with the relay node 30 via the radio link 12 , such as by sending control signali...

Abstract

The teachings herein include a base station (20) for propagating system information changes from the base station (20) to a relay node (30). Once the system information change is communicated to the relay node (30), the base station (20) defers data transfer between the base station (20) and the relay node (30) until a set time period. In many embodiments, the base station (20) is configured to actually apply system information changes during this time period, while the relay node (30) applies the changes before then, eg by applying them as soon as they are received. The base station defers data transfer until a set time period thus ensuring that data transfer does not occur until both the base station (20) and the relay node (30) have applied pending changes. This in turn prevents radio link failures from occurring due to the use of different system parameters by the base station (20) and the relay node (30).

Description

[0001] related application [0002] This application is in Priority is claimed below to US Provisional Patent Application Serial No. 61 / 330,636, filed May 3, 2010, which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety. technical field [0003] The present invention relates generally to wireless communication systems, and more particularly, to changing system information in a wireless communication system supporting relay nodes. Background technique [0004] The 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) is currently standardizing relay nodes (RNs) for the Long Term Evolution (LTE) radio access technology. From a radio propagation perspective, relay nodes are positioned between a base station (BS, or eNodeB in the LTE standard) and one or more mobile terminals (MT, or user equipment, UE in the LTE standard). In this way, the communication between the base station and the mobile terminal is relayed through the relay node. [0005] In particular, relay nodes connect to a...
