Abstract

An engine system and method for improving engine starting are disclosed. In one example, engine port throttles are adjusted to improve fuel vaporization of a fuel that includes alcohol. The system and method may improve engine starting and emissions.

【Technical field】 [0001] The present invention relates to a method and system for improving engine starting. 【Background technique】 [0002] Engines using fuels that include alcohols may be difficult to start at lower temperatures because it may be difficult to vaporize the alcohols and facilitate combustion. One approach to improving the vaporization of fuels including alcohols is to heat the fuel before injecting it into the engine. However, it may be difficult to provide sufficient heat to the fuel in a timely manner such that the fuel evaporates when injected into the cylinder. Specifically, it may be difficult to heat the fuel to a temperature that allows the fuel to vaporize in the time between combustion events.
