Abstract

The present disclosure provides a method for activity-based virtual machine (VM) availability control in a networked computing environment (eg, a cloud computing environment). In an exemplary embodiment, a system provided according to the present method monitors and logs network traffic and performs network packet inspection. Based on the content of the network packet, the system can determine which applications / processes on a particular VM are associated with that traffic. Users of the system can configure rules and thresholds. Certain network traffic disabling actions may be taken regardless of whether an availability threshold is met compared to the volume of network traffic. Users can also configure conditions that will cause disabled web applications and / or processes to be re-enabled.
