A sequence of two or more pulses is applied to the pixels of a particle-based pulse-driven display when changing the pixels to a new display state. The pulses in the sequence can be positive voltage, negative voltage or zero voltage. Each pulse in the sequence can be of the same duration, although this is not critical. A sequence of two or more pulses applied to a pixel in consecutive time may be referred to as a "waveform".
