Embodiment Construction

[0039] As mentioned above, the pixels of the display may be arranged in rows and columns between one or more transparent common electrodes and addressable electrodes, wherein each pixel is associated with an addressable electrode. Particle-Based Pulse-Driven Electrophoretic Display The display state of a pixel can be altered by an electric field applied to the pixel, which is created by the pulse. A sequence of two or more pulses is applied to the pixels of a particle-based pulse-driven display when changing the pixels to a new display state. The pulses in the sequence can be positive voltage, negative voltage or zero voltage. Each pulse in the sequence can be of the same duration, although this is not critical. A sequence of two or more pulses applied to a pixel in consecutive time may be referred to as a "waveform".

[0040] figure 1 An exemplary waveform 100 is shown that may be used to alter the display state of a pixel of a particle-based pulse-driven electrophoretic d...

Abstract

When updating an impulse-driven, electrophoretic display, a pixel synthesis operation is started first. After a first quantity of synthesized pixels has been generated, a display output operation is started. After generating the first quantity of synthesized pixels, the first frame of the display output operation is performed at substantially the same time as the pixel synthesis operation.

Description

[0001] Related application cross-reference [0002] This application claims priority benefit under USC Section 119(e) of US Provisional Patent Application No. 61 / 440,682, filed February 8, 2011. This application is based upon and claims the benefit of priority of this Provisional Application, the entire contents of which are hereby expressly incorporated by reference. technical field [0003] The present invention generally relates to devices and methods for altering the display state of pixels of a particle-based pulse-driven electrophoretic display device. Background technique [0004] A material may have two or more display states differing in at least one optical property and for said material the first display state may be changed to a second display state by applying an electric field thereto. Such materials may be referred to herein as "photoelectric" materials. The pixels of a display device can incorporate optoelectronic materials, providing a way to alter the eff...
