Embodiment Construction

[0019] A detailed description of illustrated embodiments of the invention is provided below. The disclosed embodiments are exemplary of the invention, which may be embodied in various and alternative forms. The drawings are not necessarily drawn to scale. Some features may be exaggerated or minimized to show details of particular components. Specific structural and functional details disclosed in this application are not to be interpreted as limiting, but merely as a representative basis for teaching one skilled in the art how to practice the invention.

[0020] refer to figure 1 , the automatic transmission 10 is shown diagrammatically to illustrate the engine 12 providing torque to the transmission 10 . An electronic control unit (ECU) 16 controls operation of the transmission 10 based in part on a signal (line 18 ) received from a torque sensor 20 that provides the actual torque measurement. The ECU 16 also receives a driver demanded torque 22 from a throttle position s...

Abstract

The inventon provides line pressure control with input shaft torque measurement. A method of controlling a line pressure in a transmission is provided. Line pressure in a transmission is set to a pressure value including a first term that is proportional to an input torque value. The first term has a coefficient of proportionality that is increased in response to a signal indicating clutch slippage. The input torque value is a measured input torque value in a steady-state condition. The input torque value may be a maximum of the measured input torque value and a driver demand torque value in a transient condition.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates to the control of hydraulic line pressure for a gearbox or automatic transmission. Background technique [0002] In automatic transmissions or other types of hydraulically controlled gearboxes, hydraulic line pressure is used to engage clutches to select gear ratios. Line pressure is controlled to avoid clutch slip and minimize energy consumption due to maintaining excessive line pressure. Control of line pressure for an automatic transmission affects fuel economy, ability to control the transmission, and ride quality. [0003] Ideally, line pressure should be maintained at a level sufficient to maintain the holding capacity of the engaged clutch. If the hydraulic line pressure is too high, the hydraulic pump will waste energy. Additionally, excessive line pressure can make clutch valve control more difficult since excess line pressure results in higher gain. If line pressure drops below the level necessary to prevent...
