Embodiment Construction

[0053] Embodiments and examples in this patent document provide a fixed optics system of an ophthalmic imaging device for increasing the accuracy of alignment of the imaged eye with the imaging device.

[0054] figure 1 The human eye 1 is shown in some detail. The eye 1 includes the cornea 2 which receives and refracts incoming light, the iris 3, the pupil 4 (actually the opening through which light enters the inner eye), and the lens 5 which concentrates the light on the retina. Furthermore, the eye 1 comprises a limbus 6 delimiting a colored iris 3 and a white sclera 7 .

[0055] figure 2 Ophthalmic imaging system 10 and its operation are shown. The patient 8 can be placed on a support bed. The imaging light source 11 may emit imaged light on the imaged eye 1i. A portion of the imaged light reflected by the imaged eye 1 i may be collected by the objective lens 12 and directed as collected imaged light 13 to an optical assembly or optical system 14 . Optical assembly 1...

Abstract

An ophthalmic system (10) is provided that includes an ophthalmic imaging device (110) to generate an image of a portion of an imaged eye (1i) of a patient, an image processor (120) to determine a misalignment of the imaged eye (1i) and the imaging device (110) by processing the generated image, and to generate a control signal according to the determined misalignment, and a misalignment-reduction system (130) to receive the control signal, and to generate a misalignment-reduction response. The misalignment-reduction system (130) can include a fixation light system (140) or a gantry (155, 165). In some cases a locator light system (170) may provide additional alignment information for the image processor (120).

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority to US Patent Application Serial No. 13 / 098,586, filed May 2, 2011, the entire contents of which are hereby incorporated by reference. technical field [0003] This patent document relates to systems and techniques for ophthalmic imaging. In more detail, this patent document relates to systems and methods for providing electronically controlled fixation light for improving the accuracy of aligning or docking an ophthalmic imaging system to a patient's eye. Background technique [0004] Various advanced imaging devices have been developed over the years for ophthalmic imaging, diagnosis and surgery. For some applications, these imaging devices perform best when their optical axes are aligned with that of the imaging eye. Once the optical axis of the eye is aligned with that of the imaging device, some imaging devices enhance the precision of the imaging process by securing the eye in th...
