Routing methods and systems for increasing payment transaction volume and profitability

Customers often have access to multiple payment methods for any given transaction. In one embodiment of the invention, a merchant obtains information regarding multiple payment methods from a customer, and sends said information to a transaction evaluator. Via computer networks, the transaction evaluator sends information about the transaction to the issuers of one or more of the payment methods. The issuers perform a cost / benefit analysis of the transactions and respond with a description of the terms under which they are willing to process the transaction. Based on the issuer response, the transaction evaluator selects one of the payment methods. By enabling participating issuers to select favorable transactions and avoid unprofitable ones, the invention can thus improve issuer profitability by directing profitable transactions to participating issuers while directing unprofitable transactions away from participating issuers or to alternate transaction methods that are more profitable or less costly.

Digital security multimedia sensor

A fully digital camera system provides high-resolution still image and streaming video signals via a network to a centralized, server supported security and surveillance system. The digital camera for collects an image from one or more image transducers, compressing the image and sending the compressed digital image signal to a receiving station over a digital network. A plurality of image transducers or sensors may be included in a single camera unit, providing array imaging such as full 360 degree panoramic imaging, universal or spherical imaging and field imaging by stacking or arranging the sensors in an array. The multiple images are then compressed and merged at the camera in the desired format to permit transmission of the least amount of data to accomplish the desired image transmission. The camera also employs, or connects to, a variety of sensors other than the traditional image sensor. Sensors for fire, smoke, sound, glass breakage, motion, panic buttons, and the like, may be embedded in or connected to the camera. Data captured by these sensors may be digitized, compressed, and networked to detect notable conditions. An internal microphone and associated signal processing system may be equipped with suitable signal processing algorithms for the purpose of detecting suitable acoustic events and their location. In addition, the camera is equipped with a pair of externally accessible terminals where an external sensor may be connected. In addition, the camera may be equipped with a short-range receiver that may detect the activation of a wirelesspanic button’ carried by facility personnel. This ‘panic button’ may employ infrared, radio frequency (RF), ultrasonic, or other suitable methods to activate the camera's receiver.

Method for providing scalable multicast service in a virtual private LAN service

Multicast capability in a virtual private LAN service (VPLS) is provided in a provider IP / MPLS infrastructure without headend replications by encapsulating a customer data packet to use an established multicast protocol, such as IP multicast. In one example, the customer data packet is encapsulated by an IP header having an IP multicast group address and an Ethernet header. In one implementation, a DNS type mechanism is provided to distribute the IP multicast addresses for VPLS use. Such IP multicast group address can be set aside from an administratively scoped address range. An efficient IP routing algorithm running on the provider's network provides an efficient distribution tree for routing IP-encapsulated customer packet for the VPLS.

Query routing in a distributed database system

A distributed query system includes a distributed collection of dynamically created compiled queries. As each client submits a query, a parameterized query skeleton is identified, which identifies the general form of the query, and the parameters associated with the particular query. If a compiled form of the skeletal query is available within the distributed system, it is executed with the parameters of the current query. If the compiled form of the skeletal query is not available within the distributed system, a compiled form is created, and the location of this compiled skeletal query is stored for subsequent access by this client, or other clients. The executable compiled skeletal queries may be stored at each client system, in a commonly available server storage system, or within one or more database servers. A routing system may be provided to efficiently route parameterized queries to the appropriate location(s) of the compiled skeletal query.

Energy storage device for loads having variabl power rates

An electrical energy storage device for storing electrical energy and supplying the electrical energy to a driving motor at different power levels is disclosed. The electrical storage device has an energy battery connected to a power battery. The energy battery has a higher energy density than the power battery. However, the power battery can provide electrical power to the electrical motor at different power rates, thereby ensuring that the motor has sufficient power and current when needed. The power battery can be recharged by the energy storage battery. In this way, the power battery temporarily stores electrical energy received from the energy battery and both batteries can provide electrical energy at the different power rates as required by the motor. The energy storage device can be releasably connected to an external power source in order to recharge both batteries. Both batteries can be recharged independently to optimize the recharging and lifetime characteristics of the batteries.

Gatekeeper supporting handoff and handoff method in IP telephony system

A gatekeeper supporting a handoff and handoff method in an IP telephony system is disclosed. The gatekeeper is configured to perform third-party pause and rerouting (3PPR) signaling and to support the handoff using 3PPR signaling, so that a mobile terminal does not need to have a H.450.2 stack function. In addition, for a fast connect call, the H.245 control channel is induced and the 3PPR signaling, which is made through the H.245 control channel, is performed for every call including the fast connect call. Thus the handoff using the 3PPR signaling can be provided to every call. Moreover, the H.245 control channel for the fast connect call is set on the basis of the tunneling during a telephony, so that the fast connection can be maintained as it is and, thus, the fast handoff signaling can be provided.

Optimal relay node selecting method and multi-hop radio communications network system

A method of selecting an optimal relay node in a multi-hop radio communications network has the steps of receiving, at a particular node, detection response signals which are transmitted from a plurality of other nodes, each of which has received a detection signal, and are not addressed to the particular node, and selecting a relay node based on the received detection response signals. The detection response signal includes, for example, an actual parameter in a node which transmits the detection response signal, and an optimum parameter for use as a criterion for establishing a path. The particular node selects the relay node from among those nodes which have transmitted the detection response signals each having the actual parameter equal to or larger than the optimum parameter.

End-to-end considerate link control and routing in a multihop network

By introducing a novel parameter common to all links along the entire multihop route it is possible to more flexibly allocate, for each of a number of the links, a set of three interdependent link transmit parameters representative of link transmit energy, link transmit time or link transmit bandwidth or link code word consumption, and link transmit power. Basically, the common parameter is determined based on a given end-to-end (ETE) transmit parameter constraint for the entire multihop route. The idea is then to assign or allocate, for each considered link, the three interdependent link transmit parameters based on the common parameter and local link characteristics. In this way, all three link transmit parameters may (and generally will) be different between at least two links on the route when the links have different link characteristics, assuming that each link transmit parameter is also dependent on the local link characteristics. Preferably, the common parameter is determined in the process of optimizing a given objective ETE function.

Method and apparatus for load balancing in a virtual private network

In a virtual private network, a plurality of concentrators form an interface to provide client / remote site access to a private network over a public network. The plurality of concentrators are grouped into a virtual cluster. Each concentrator in the virtual cluster has an IP address and the virtual cluster has a virtual IP address. In operation, one of the plurality of concentrators assumes the virtual IP address and acts as the master device in the cluster. When a client attempts a connection to the private network, the client addresses an initial request to the virtual IP address. The master device responds to the client request by transmitting to the client the IP address of a concentrator in the cluster selected to handle the connection.
