Variable incentive and virtual market system

A method of and system for providing an incentive program for conserving a consumable resource such as electricity, natural gas, oil, air or water. The present invention monitors utilization of the resource at a location, and then determines a type and quantity of variable resource points to be provided to an account associated with the location or with a participant by analyzing the monitored resource utilization with respect to a plurality of varying conditions (time-variant, location-variant, cost-variant etc.). These conditions may be independent or interdependent; these relationships will be incorporated into the calculations resulting in the award of the type and quantity of resource points determined by the Program. The resource points are then stored in an account associated with the location or with a participant for future use.

Digital security multimedia sensor

A fully digital camera system provides high-resolution still image and streaming video signals via a network to a centralized, server supported security and surveillance system. The digital camera for collects an image from one or more image transducers, compressing the image and sending the compressed digital image signal to a receiving station over a digital network. A plurality of image transducers or sensors may be included in a single camera unit, providing array imaging such as full 360 degree panoramic imaging, universal or spherical imaging and field imaging by stacking or arranging the sensors in an array. The multiple images are then compressed and merged at the camera in the desired format to permit transmission of the least amount of data to accomplish the desired image transmission. The camera also employs, or connects to, a variety of sensors other than the traditional image sensor. Sensors for fire, smoke, sound, glass breakage, motion, panic buttons, and the like, may be embedded in or connected to the camera. Data captured by these sensors may be digitized, compressed, and networked to detect notable conditions. An internal microphone and associated signal processing system may be equipped with suitable signal processing algorithms for the purpose of detecting suitable acoustic events and their location. In addition, the camera is equipped with a pair of externally accessible terminals where an external sensor may be connected. In addition, the camera may be equipped with a short-range receiver that may detect the activation of a wireless ‘panic button’ carried by facility personnel. This ‘panic button’ may employ infrared, radio frequency (RF), ultrasonic, or other suitable methods to activate the camera's receiver.

Methods and systems for collecting driving information and classifying drivers and self-driving systems

Systems and methods for efficiently addressing technical and privacy / authorization obstacles associated with tracking of individuals in a vehicle, and enabling route-based analysis to determine driving behavior, socio-demographics, future profitability, and interests of individuals or self-driving systems. Driving information is collected using a device associated with a driver and a vehicle or using data collected by systems of self-driving vehicles. The frequency and methods used for the collection of driving information can be modified based on location and movement of the device and based on previous classification of the driver or self-driving system, thereby enabling efficient use of bandwidth and battery and increasing accuracy of the classification. The driving information is encoded and transmitted to a server, where future typical route segments that the driver is likely to travel are predicted, and the driver, or the self-driving system, is classified into one or more groups based on the encoded driving information.

Electrosurgical generator and method for cross-checking mode functionality

The functionality and the mode of operation are evaluated in an electrosurgical generator by determining whether a patterned pulse signal that contributes to the generation of electrosurgical energy is as expected. A number of pulses in the patterned pulse signal is compared to an expected number of pulses, and an error condition is indicated when the two values are not the same or differ by more than a predetermined amount. The expected number of pulses depends on a mode of operation of the electrosurgical generator. The error condition may be used to as a basis to terminate the output power delivery.

Scalable, fault tolerant notification method

A scalable, fault-tolerant, federated event notification method is described, wherein clients express interest in a topic by subscribing, and published event notifications are delivered to all current topic-subscribers. Event notifications are disseminated by a multicast tree that does not require participation by unwilling nodes. The multicast tree is constructed so that nodes belonging to the organization owning the tree do not rely on nodes outside the organization to forward message traffic. Event notifications are delivered using redundant tree-based application-level multicast to ensure reliable delivery.

Systems and methods for improved data throughput in communications networks

An access point of a communications network is disclosed configured to receive a multicast or broadcast packet from a source. The access point converts the multicast or broadcast packet into a unicast packet addressed to a station associated with the access point. The access point then transmits the unicast packet over the communications network from the access point to the station. The access point further may determine a minimum data rate by which the access point may transmit the multicast or broadcast packet to the station and determines an effective unicast rate for transmitting the unicast packet to the station. If the effective unicast rate does not exceed the minimum data rate, the access point does not transmit the unicast packet to the station and transmits the multicast or broadcast packet.

Network control confirmation system control communication terminal server and network control confirmation method

This invention relates to a network control verification system, a control communication terminal, a server apparatus, and a network control verification method whereby a user away from a recording apparatus is notified of information such as whether the recording apparatus has completed unattended recording of a broadcast program as reserved. Specifically, a recording / reproducing apparatus 4 records a broadcast program to a recording medium in accordance with unattended recording reservation settings. The apparatus 4 extracts one picture frame from the pictures recorded on the recording medium and turns the extracted frame into a thumbnail image. The recording / reproducing apparatus 4 then transmits an e-mail including a recording start date, a recording start time, a recording stop time, a broadcast channel, and a recording mode regarding the recorded broadcast program to a mobile phone 53 together with an attachment of the thumbnail. By checking the e-mail sent to the mobile phone 53, the user can verify that the recording has been completed as reserved. This invention may be applied advantageously to networked electronic apparatuses.

Rotational atherectomy device with electric motor

An atherectomy device is disclosed, which is rotationally driven by an electric motor. In some designs, the device includes features unavailable on gas turbine-driven systems, such as the storing in memory of low / medium / high preset rotation speeds for particular models of handle, calculations of the amount of saline left in the IV and associated warnings when it gets sufficiently low, and automatic adjustment of the IV pump rate to a predetermined or calculated level when the rotational speed of the motor is changed. The electric motor has far more rotational inertia than a comparable gas turbine, so the system includes a control mechanism that helps prevent damage from excessive torque being applied to the distal end of the drive shaft. When an obstruction at the distal end is detected, by a drop in the motor rotational speed, the motor is released and is allowed to spin freely as a flywheel. The freely-spinning motor allows the large angular momentum of the system to dissipate rapidly and safely, without excessive torque to the drive shaft.
