Methods and apparatus for navigating video content. Digital markers may be placed at desired locations within recorded or cached video content. In one embodiment, these markers (or bookmarks) may be used to instantly jump to a particular scene or location within a video presentation. Such markers may be manually or automatically placed during live caching of video content or playback of previously recorded content. A method is provided for determining a ranking score for an image or group of related images among a plurality of images accessible by a search engine, such that the ranking score is usable to determine the order in which the images are presented in the results of a search conducted by the search engine. The method comprises monitoring the number of times the image (or the images in the group of related images) is presented for viewing by predetermined users in the results of searches conducted by the search engine. The level of active interest shown by the predetermined users in the image or images presented for viewing in the search results is then monitored, for example by determining the number of times that users select a thumbnail of the image for viewing on an enlarged scale. Finally a ranking score is assigned to the image or images based on the monitored level of active interest as a proportion of the number of times the image or images are presented for viewing by the predetermined users. The method includes providing a set of stack icons, each icon in the set having a stack height representing a range of stack sizes. The selected stack may be stored within one of multiple libraries. Accordingly a distinct set of icons relevant to each library may be stored for each library. The icons may visibly convey information pertaining to the relevant library. Accordingly, the method may include representing a selected stack by determining an appropriate library and an appropriate stack height and displaying a corresponding icon. The system may additionally include an empty stack icon, a generic stack icon, property based icons, and custom thumbnail icons.
