Mobile originated interactive menus via short messaging services

A method and apparatus for providing 2-way interactive short message system menus to a mobile device using text-based short messaging rather than WAP techniques. This provides the ability to provide WAP like services at a fraction of the cost of CSD. Mobile Originated Interactive Menus are implemented as a feature of a Short Message Service Center (SMSC). Each option guides either to the next menu level, or to a final action to be executed according to the path followed by the subscriber. Importantly, the mobile originated interactive menus use SMS communications instead of circuit switched data (CSD) (e.g., instead of WAP communications), thus leaving traffic channels available for voice calls. Interactive SMS menus allow service providers to offer their subscribers personalized messaging menus with multiple options for quick and easy access to Web-based content. Users may define the content and frequency they want, whether it is a scheduled delivery or on-demand. The interactive SMS menu options offer customers a simple-to-use technique and apparatus for checking, e.g., stock quotes, local weather, and / or other Web-based news and information when they want it. The interactive nature of the service allows the wireless network to poll the user for their next response, with multiple menued options offered, making it highly intuitive. Replacement of messages in TDMA and GSM mobile devices allow for heavy usage without filling up the user's phone buffer, i.e., prior messages may be overwritten, to assure that only the latest information is all that is being displayed and read. The flexibility of Interactive SMS Menus can allow service providers to define their own base offering of menus, depending upon their targeted customer segments.

Method and apparatus for securing soft tissue to bone

Apparatus for securing an object to bone, the apparatus comprising:
    • a suture anchor assembly comprising a suture anchor body and a suture;
      • the suture anchor body being configured to be lockingly disposed within a hole formed in the bone, and having an opening formed therein for slidably receiving the suture therethrough;
      • the suture having a first end, a second end and an intermediate portion extending therebetween;
      • the suture extending through the opening in the suture anchor body so that the intermediate portion forms a loop on one side of the opening and the first and second ends are disposed on the other side of the opening, such that when the first end of the suture is passed through the loop and securingly engages the object, pulling on the second end of the suture draws the loop and a captured portion of the suture along a path toward the opening in the suture anchor body;
      • the suture anchor body being configured so that when the suture anchor body is disposed in the hole in the bone, a tapered binding zone is established along the path followed by the loop and the captured portion of the suture when the second end of the suture is pulled, the tapered binding zone having a successively decreasing cross-sectional area such that continued pulling of the second end of the suture causes the loop and the captured portion of the suture to be jammed tightly in the tapered binding zone, whereby to bind the suture, and hence the object, to the suture anchor body, which is itself lockingly disposed within the bone.

Intelligent electric vehicle path tracking model prediction control method

ActiveCN109795502AImprove path tracing performanceImprove mechanical propertiesModel predictive controlElectric vehicle
The invention relates to an intelligent electric vehicle path tracking model prediction control method, belonging to the technical field of control. The aim of the invention is to adopt the intelligent electric vehicle path tracking model prediction control method, wherein the model prediction control method can take account of the safety constraints of a whole vehicle simultaneously and realizeseclectic optimization among vehicle path tracking performance, safety and whole vehicle performance effectively. The method gives thought to intelligent electric vehicle path tracking model building in limited conditions and yaw stabilization controller design based on model prediction control as well as the tracking performance of the vehicle, the safety of the vehicle, the whole vehicle performance, driving comfort and saving and control of energy in the process of carrying out control strategy deduction, and improves the dynamic performance of the whole vehicle. The method gives thought tothe tracking performance of the vehicle (path following and speed following), the safety of the vehicle (preventing slipping, locking, sideward inclining or drifting), the whole vehicle performance (accelerating and braking performance), driving comfort (the change of torque cannot be too great) and saving and control of energy (saving energy on the premise of meeting the performance). The dynamicperformance of the whole vehicle is improved.

Method and apparatus for signaling path restoration information in a mesh network

ActiveUS7426179B1Rapid and robust and reliable signalingEffective bandwidthError preventionTransmission systemsCross connectionEngineering
A method and apparatus are disclosed for monitoring and signaling a path restoration using pre-computed restoration paths following a detected fault on a primary service path in a communications network. A fault occurring inside the restorable portion of a network in heterogeneous or multiple network environments can be distinguished from faults occurring outside the restorable network in accordance with the ANSI Tandem Connection Maintenance standard, T1.105.05-1994. Path restoration is activated only when a fault causing path failure occurs inside the restorable portion of the network. Each conforming node in the restorable portion of the network has the necessary monitoring, signaling and cross-connect functionality and databases to participate actively in real time restoration. Additional non-conforming network elements can be positioned between the restoration nodes without preventing path restoration. With the signaling architecture of the present invention, when an end-node detects a path failure caused by an in-network fault, it formulates a signaling message for restoring the failed path. The restoration signaling message is thereafter relayed from one node to another in the overhead or payload of signaling paths that occupy the same bandwidth that is subsequently used by the restoration path. Once a signaling message is transmitted to an adjacent node in the overhead or payload of a particular signaling path, the node that transmitted the message makes a cross-connect that replaces the signaling path with a segment of the restoration path whose set-up was requested in the transmitted signaling message.
