A suture assembly comprises a suture anchor, a repair suture, and a shuttle suture. Each suture has a looped end and a tail end. The tail end of the repair suture and the looped end of the shuttle suture extend out one side of the proximal end of the anchor, while the looped end of the repair suture and the tail end of the shuttle suture extend out the opposite side of the anchor. The tail of the repair suture may have a proximal portion which is thicker than its end portion. A system of toggle type suture anchors is disclosed. The plurality of suture anchors is connected in series by a plurality of independently cinchable working suture loops with one working suture loop connecting each pair of anchors in series to form a chain. Each of the suture anchors as connected by working suture loops allows tensioning of the working suture between itself and the prior anchor implanted in the serial string. Further, each anchor includes a loop type locking mechanism to lock the cinchable working suture loop subsequent to tensioning so that the loop remains fixed in size during cyclic loading during joint use. The present invention provides knotless suture anchor systems and devices for attaching soft tissue to bone. The systems and devices include suture anchors configured to engage and fasten sutures using set screws such that the locked sutures are free from frictional engagement with bone, screw threading, or internal walls of the anchors and set screws. Fastened sutures may also be re-tensioned by loosening a set screw to unfasten the sutures, adjusting the positioning of the sutures, and tightening the set screw to refasten the sutures. In some embodiments, the systems and devices enable the insertion of a suture anchor without preloading sutures, such that one or more sutures may be fastened to the suture anchor after implanting the suture anchor into a subject.
