The present invention relates to orthopedic implants made from a mesh material. The mesh material can be treated in order to promote bone growth, to provide antibiotics, or to provide other beneficial treatment. Specific applications for the implants include, for example, a prosthetic ligament, a tension band, an interbody device, or a fixation device that extends across one or more joints or fractures.

A bio-compatible stabilization system includes one or more inserters and a connector for traversing a space between one or more bony structures. An apparatus for launching and dispensing multiple satellites into orbit includes a central structure and a plurality of satellites releasably bundled around the central structure to form a cohesive, single payload mounted on an upper stage of a launcher rocket. Each satellite has the shape of a partial cylinder segment of which an outer wall is a cylindrical segment shell. An exercise device includes an upper frame supporting a seat back, the seat back enabling support of a torso of a user. A lower seat includes a lower frame that is pivotally mounted to the upper frame. A disposable net assembly is provided for a trap for collecting floatable debris in a waterway or combined sewer system. The net assembly includes a knitted bag-shaped mesh net having a frame surrounding the mouth of the net with the net secured around its rim to the frame. The net may be formed of an inner layer and an outer layer of mesh with the openings of the inner layer being substantially larger than the openings of the outer layer. The frame may be formed of a plastic molded material having side members tapered in the vertical direction to facilitate the changing of the netting assemblies and tapered in the downstream direction to lock into place under the force of the flow. Several embodiments of the frame members have projections thereon which cooperate with a clamping element to hold the net to the frame. Some embodiments of the members have parts that lock together with a post and hole construction while others employ a tension band to clamp the net to the projections on the frame. The net is preferably secured around its rim to the frame, with the mouth of the net extending around the outside and upstream side of the frame and over the surface having the projections. A ankle and foot stabilization support apparatus and method that provide stability while the user's foot is in the neutral, dorsiflexed, and plantarflexed positions. In one embodiment, the invention comprises a support foundation and two adjustable lateral tension bands. One band extends from the support foundation to a location on an item of footwear that is proximate to the lateral heel counter and provides support in the neutral and dorsiflexed position. The second band extends from the support foundation to a location on the item of footwear proximate to the lateral quarter and provides support in the plantarflexed position. Another embodiment includes medial stabilization tension bands. The invention can be readily moved from footwear to footwear, may be integrated into an item of footwear, and may contain a combination of lateral and medial tension bands.

When stiffening members, such as stringers and frame members, are welded onto a skin sheet to form an aircraft fuselage shell, a crack originating in the skin sheet tends to propagate through the weld joints into the stiffening members. In order to prevent crack propagation into a stiffening member, the stiffening member is reinforced with a web doubler plate or a tension band made of high strength steel or titanium alloys or fiber-reinforced composites. The doubler plate is riveted or adhesively bonded onto a stiffening member web, or the tension band is crimped into the stiffening member web. A connector for a spinal alignment system includes a base, a hook, a guide aperture, and a locking portion. The base includes a channel extending therethrough to receive a fixation rod. The hook extends from the base. The guide aperture is adapted to receive a bone fastener and the locking portion is adapted to engage the bone fastener. The guide aperture extends through one of the base and the hook and the locking portion is located in the other of the base and the hook. The locking portion is coaxial with the guide aperture such that the guide aperture guides a shaft of the bone fastener into alignment with the locking portion when the bone fastener is received by the guide aperture. The bone fastener cooperates with the base and hook to form a tension band construct that resists opposing forces acting on the construct. A rod locking fastener engages the channel and the fixation rod to secure the fixation rod in the channel. The rod locking fastener and the base include mating surfaces that cooperate with each other to resist the force exerted by the fixation rod onto the rod locking fastener when the fixation rod is secured in the channel.

A bone plating system comprising: a plate, where the plate is low-profile and capable of contouring to a bone; a variable number of screw holes, locking or non-locking; at least one channel or tunnel through the plate; and at least one flexible device passing through the channel or tunnel and passing through soft tissue attached to the bone. The low profile plate, in combination with the flexible device passing through the surrounding soft tissue, functions as a tension band and acts to neutralize the muscle forces tending to pull the bone apart at a fracture. The low profile tension band plating system is targeted for periarticular tensile fractures for repair of patella, olecranon, greater trochanter, greater tuberosity, radial styloid, lateral or medial malleoli, or lateral malleolus.

Methods and devices are disclosed for inhibiting proximal junctional failure in a patient having posterior spinal instrumentation. One or more tension bands can be threaded through transverse bores in a spinous process of a vertebral body of a spine, superior and adjacent an uppermost instrumented vertebral body.
