Sliding body expanding broadhead

An expanding or expandable broadhead tip for arrows wherein a sliding body is provided to carry the blades of the arrow and allow for rotation of the blades to an expanded position. When in folded or inflight position, the rearmost ends of the blades rest on a radial surface of a stationary or positionable stop having a camming front surface and which are held in such position by a retainer. When the tip strikes an object, the sliding body moves rearwardly causing the ends of the blades to override the hold down force of the retainer and as rearward motion continues, the blades are cammed outwardly by the camming front of the stop.

Firearm ammunition for tracking wounded prey

A firearm ammunition device includes a cartridge with a projectile that is loaded with a tracer agent. When the projectile is fired and strikes a game animal, the impact causes the release and dispersal of the tracer agent from the projectile. The dispersed tracer agent identifies an enhanced-visibility trail of the fleeing animal. In example embodiments, the cartridge is provided by a centerfire cartridge, a shotgun cartridge, and a muzzleloading cartridge. The tracer agent preferably comprises one or more compounds that produce visible light to the naked eye and / or under a black light source. Example tracer agents include biological stains that produce visible light upon contact with blood, luminol or another chemiluminescent compound that releases light by a chemical reaction such as may occur when contacting blood, a basic salt such as sodium carbonate or another effervescence-inducing agent, a phosphorescent compound, or a fluorescent compound.

Expandable arrow broadhead for attachment to one end of an arrow shaft

ActiveUS7226375B1Improve bleedingQuick and more humane killThrow gamesArrowsCamKnife blades
An expandable arrow broadhead used for releasable attachment to one end of a hollow arrow shaft. The broadhead includes a sliding shaft with a pointed tip and tip base having two or more of cutting blades mounted thereon. Each of the blades includes an outer cutting edge and an inner edge. A portion of the sliding shaft is slidably received inside a hollow collar. The collar is attached to a sliding shaft housing. The sliding shaft housing is attached to an arrow shaft insert. The arrow shaft insert is adapted for receipt inside one end of the arrow shaft. In a retracted position, the blades are disposed next to and parallel to the length of the sliding shaft. When the pointed tip engages a target, the sliding shaft moves inwardly and rearwardly sliding inside the collar and inside a sliding shaft bore hole in the sliding shaft housing. As the sliding shaft moves rearwardly, a beveled cam surface of the blades engages a portion of the collar, which moves the blades outwardly into an extended position.

Arrowhead with unfolding blades

An arrowhead of the expandable or mechanical broadhead type, i.e., having blades which unfold to increase the effective cutting area of the arrowhead, includes a tip with a rearwardly-extending actuating member which triggers one or more blades into an open state when the tip strikes a target game animal. The blades are pivotable with respect to a body into which the actuating member extends, and they include ears against which the actuating member presses upon tip impact to trigger the blades open. A latching spring maintains the blades in a closed state until the tip and actuating member are driven rearwardly by tip impact, and the tip and actuating member are preferably maintained in a forward and ready-to-trigger state by an opening spring. The actuating member may extend between the blade ears after the blades are triggered open to fix the blades in the open state until the tip is pulled forwardly to withdraw the actuating member from the ears.

Broadhead with replaceable blade carrying section

A broadhead including a main body portion and a replaceable blade carrying portion having at least a pair of blades on the blade portion. This structure permits removal and replacement of the blade portion to provide new blades of the same style or provide blades of another selected style. Such a selected style may include pivotally mounted blades which are folded for in-flight and travel and which expand rearwardly upon striking a target to present a large cutting dimension or may include stationary blades of predetermined cutting dimension. This concept allows the user to simply switch from dull to sharp blades or change styles from an expandable to a stationary type broadhead or vice-versa, by simply changing the blade carrying portion while utilizing the same man body portion. The pivotally mounted blades provide a folded, in-flight, position. When this style impacts the target, the blades pivot to their expanded cutting position exposing the cutting edge of each blade. When selecting the stationary style which provides a fixed position blade wherein the cutting edges will always be exposed. In either instance, the blade carrying body is prevented from rotating about the main body portion in the in-flight or target striking position.

Fine-grained metallic coatings having the coefficient of thermal expansion matched to the one of the substrate

ActiveUS20070281176A1Cost-effective and convenient processIncrease stiffnessMaterial nanotechnologyRodsThermal dilatationMetal coating
Fine-grained (average grain size 1 nm to 1,000 nm) metallic coatings optionally containing solid particulates dispersed therein are disclosed. The fine-grained metallic materials are significantly harder and stronger than conventional coatings of the same chemical composition due to Hall-Petch strengthening and have low linear coefficients of thermal expansion (CTEs). The invention provides means for matching the CTE of the fine-grained metallic coating to the one of the substrate by adjusting the composition of the alloy and / or by varying the chemistry and volume fraction of particulates embedded in the coating. The fine-grained metallic coatings are particularly suited for strong and lightweight articles, precision molds, sporting goods, automotive parts and components exposed to thermal cycling. The low CTEs and the ability to match the CTEs of the fine-grained metallic coatings with the CTEs of the substrate minimize dimensional changes during thermal cycling and prevent premature failure.

Sliding arrow stabilizer

An improved arrow and sliding stabilizer therefor are provided. The sliding stabilizer is used for stabilizing arrow flight, instead of fixed or glued tail feathers, vanes or other fletching. The invention improves current projectile technology with reduced assembly labor cost, the elimination of bow clearance issues, improved accuracy with the consistent production of the sliding stabilizer, easy replacement of the stabilizer in the field, and improved arrow storage. A sliding stabilizer is designed to slide along the shaft of an arrow and comprises an annular wing and a plurality of fins. In use, the stabilizer is positioned at the front of the arrow prior to launch, and the arrow slides quickly through the stabilizer until secured at a stop position at or near the trailing end of the arrow.

An arrowhead having at least one blade, preferably between two to six blades, which are interchangeably mounted in a pivotal or a fixed position with respect to a blade carrying body. A pin is used to retain a corresponding blade in a pivotal or a fixed position with respect to a blade carrying body. When the blade is pivotally mounted a bias force of a retaining member is preferably selected so that each blade remains in a normally closed position during flight or during handling of the arrowhead, but yet responsively and quickly moves to a fully open position upon impact or when a sufficient opening force is applied to the blade.
