An eye socket, or orbital socket, is a part of the skull in which the eye is enclosed. Structures such as the lacrimal gland, the optic nerve, and muscles keep the eye and the socket functioning properly.

Inflatable medical interfaces and other medcal devices, systems, and methods

An inflatable mask with two ocular cavities can seal against a user's face by forming an air-tight seal around the periphery of the user's eye socket. The sealed air-tight ocular cavity can be pressurized to take ocular measurements. The mask can conform to the contours of a user's face by inflating or deflating the mask. In addition, the distance between the user and a medical device (e.g. an optical coherence tomography instrument) can be adjusted by inflating or deflating the mask. Also disclosed herein is an electronic encounter portal and an automated eye examination. Other embodiments are also described.

Biopsy method for use in human face identification

The invention provides a biopsy method for use in human face identification and belongs to the technical field of mode identification. The algorithm provided by the invention comprises: firstly, giving a 'please-face-the-camera-with-face' prompt to a user logging in regardless of the current posture of the user, finding the face and eye socket areas by using an Adaboost human face sorter during the posture correction of the user, determining upper and low eyelids and left and right eye corners by using differential projection and precisely framing the positions of the eye sockets; secondly, computing optical flow field of two adjacent frames in an input video sequence by using an LK algorithm; and thirdly, further processing obtained optical flow data to obtain an optical flow amplitude, acquiring the number of the pixels with high amplitude, computing the specific gravity of the pixels with high amplitude, and determining eye movement if the proportion is big. Experiments show that for a real human face, eye movement can be detected easily due to a heavy optical flow generated on the eyes in a posture correction and eye twinkling process, while for a picture, eyes only perform a micro movement no matter how the picture moves or translations. When the method is used for biopsy, a better effect can be obtained.

Head support device for use when lying in the prone position

InactiveUS20050177946A1Comfortable facial supportHighly stablePillowsOperating tablesLeft frontal sinusProne position
A head support device which enables a user to comfortably rest in the prone position. The head support device includes a padded member having a generally horse-shoe shape with a top, arcuate sides spaced apart ends, a first inner side wall and a second inner side wall, a first region for supporting the user's face in the frontal sinus area, a second region adjacent to the eye socket and cheek area for supporting the user's face area, and a third region for support along the sides of the user's mandible. The support device also includes a substantially rigid support member for supporting the padded member. The support member has a pair of upstanding splayed outwardly walls which define an air channel for the free exchange of air when the user inhales or exhales. The support member has a plurality of opposing, substantially parallel zones which provide support for the above described support regions of the padded member when the user is lying in the prone position. The padded member is secured to the support member using an attachment method that does not interfere with said padded member conforming to the facial configuration of the user.

Hat with scarf

A hat member has a lower rim with a scarf attached thereto which extends between the temple areas around the back of the head. The scarf has and eye edge proximate the lower part of the eye sockets and extends from there to an area proximate the juncture of the neck with the torso or trunk. The scarf is loose and has folds under the chin so that a coat or other outer garment can be positioned and closed there over without restricting movement of the user. The scarf extends from the rim down proximate the nape of the neck to protect the back of the head and he rear of the neck. The hat member has a crown into which the scarf member can be positioned and stored while the hat is being worn. In turn the scarf may be moved between a stored position in the crown of the hat member and a deployed position removed from the crown and deployed over and about the head of the user.

Periscope swim goggles

Periscope Swim Goggles are swimmer's goggles with a periscope situated above the water line that projects the view that is ahead of the swimmer through a fiber optic cable to a viewer located on the goggle's eyepiece. Generally, an open-water swimmer using the free style or crawl stroke must occasionally sight on a landmark to swim toward. Periscope Swim Goggles would enable the swimmer to continually swim directly along the desired path without lifting the head for sighting. Conventional swimming goggles are typically comprised of two eyepieces contoured and gasketed for an air-tight fit around each eye socket and an elastic strap that wraps around the head holding the eyepieces tight to the face. In one embodiment of the invention, the periscope is positioned and secured at the back of the head by the elastic strap of the goggles. The fiber optic cable leaves the periscope and follows the elastic strap to the viewer which is mounted to the front of the eyepiece.

Taxidermy form and method

The invention involves a taxidermy form comprising opposing face pieces having eye openings and nostrils which overlay an inner core having eye sockets, eyeballs, nasal cavities, and a nostril septum to form realistic eye settings and noses. The core is molded as a single unit with eye sockets, a nasal cavity, and a septum and the desired style eyeballs are adhered to the eye sockets and the nasal cavity are detailed and painted to replicate those of a living animal of the type to be mounted. Once the core is prepared, the outer face pieces are attached in an overlying relationship to expose a portion of the eyeballs through the eye openings and the underlying nostril cavities and septum through the nostrils, thereby creating a more realistic taxidermy mount which is easy to prepare. In an alternative embodiment, the two face pieces can be molded as a single unit, which can be easily slipped over the nose of the core and affixed in place in the same manner as the separate pieces.

Automated Incremental Eyedrop Delivery System with Eyelid Retracting Legs

ActiveUS20130006202A1Facilitates proper positioningGood adhesionMedical applicatorsEye treatmentBottleCam
An eyedrop bottle holder with resilient arms formed from an inverted U-shaped band made from resilient injection molded plastic. The top middle portion of the inverted U-shape band includes a centrally located opening through which the top (dispensing portion) of a standard eyedrop bottle containing eyedrop solution may be positioned and held. The right and left arms of the U-shape band each terminate in an outwardly disposed J-shape foot, the underside of which is covered by a soft rubber-like pad. When a user inserts a standard eyedrop bottle into the holder, the dispensing tip of the eyedrop bottle may be positioned in close proximity to the user's eye. The user may cause his or her eye lid to remain open by using the fingers of one hand to squeeze the right and left arms of the holder together, then placing the pad of one arm on the upper ridge of the orbital eye socket and the pad of the second arm on the lower ridge of the orbital eye socket. Releasing the arms causes the skin of the user's upper and lower eyelids to be spread apart from each other and remain spread during an eyedrop solution dispensing event. The eyedrop bottle is retained within a housing that includes an electromechanical assembly with a rotating cam that pushes on the side of the bottle until a predetermined amount of solution is dispensed. When a set amount of eyedrop solution has been dispensed, the assembly resets itself. An electronic sensor detects the passage of a drop of solution from the bottle and directs a reverse motion to the rotating cam. Tilt sensors assist the user in properly orienting the device for use. An adaptor may be used to accommodate non-standard sized eyedrop bottles.
