A cutting guide for performing a bone osteotomy procedure is disclosed. The cutting guide includes a first arm having a first cutting guide surface formed therein, a second arm having a second cutting guide surface formed therein pivotably connected to the first arm and a distractor operatively connected to the first arm. The cutting guide is adapted to be affixed to the bone such that the first cutting guide surface is open to the second cutting guide surface. The first arm and second arm are rotatable with respect to each other such that manipulation of the distractor creates a force between the first arm and the second arm causing rotation of the first arm and second arm relative to each other. A method for using the cutting guide in a bone osteotomy procedure is also disclosed.

The present invention expands a spinal canal by drilling a cylindrical passage in each pedicle of a vertebra, making a circumferential pedicle cut (osteotomy) through each pedicle from within the passage, separating each pedicle cut by inserting an implant into the passage which distracts the pedicle cut to expand the spinal canal, and securing each pedicle cut, allowing the vertebra to heal with the spinal canal expanded. The implant includes an outer sleeve, an inner bolt, and expandable flanges. The outer sleeve includes an upper portion and a lower portion, with the expandable flanges connected to the lower portion and housed within the upper portion. Rotation of the inner bolt causes the upper and lower portions of the outer sleeve to separate, causing the pedicle cut to widen and the expandable flanges to radially extend into and stabilize the widened pedicle cut to effectuate expansion of the spinal canal.

A cutting block for use in a bone osteotomy procedure is disclosed, and includes a first cutting guide surface, a second cutting guide surface, and a third cutting guide surface. The first, second, and third cutting guide surfaces are adapted to be temporarily affixed to a bone having a first side and a second side such that the first cutting guide surface is disposed on the first side of the bone, and such that the second cutting guide surface and third cutting guide surface are disposed on the second side of the bone forming an angle therebetween.

A cutting block for use in a bone osteotomy procedure is disclosed, and includes a first cutting guide surface, a second cutting guide surface, and a third cutting guide surface. The first, second, and third cutting guide surfaces are adapted to be temporarily affixed to a bone having a first side and a second side such that the first cutting guide surface is disposed on the first side of the bone, and such that the second cutting guide surface and third cutting guide surface are disposed on the second side of the bone forming an angle therebetween.

A method for reconstructing a knee ligament and for performing a tibial osteotomy on the knee in a single procedure, the method comprising:

forming a bone tunnel through the tibia at a location appropriate for the ligament reconstruction, disposing a graft ligament in the bone tunnel, and securing the graft ligament in the bone tunnel, and forming a wedge-like opening in the bone at a location appropriate for the tibial osteotomy, positioning an osteotomy implant in the wedge-like opening in the bone, and securing the osteotomy implant in the wedge-like opening in the bone;

wherein the osteotomy implant is secured in the wedge-like opening in the bone with a fastener which extends through the implant and into the bone tunnel.

An implant for the purpose of osteosynthesis, for the immobilization and stabilization of tubular bones, especially of tubular bones that have a fracture or an osteotomy, especially of rib bones, comprises at least a first implant component that has an attachment section with means of attachment for the purpose of attaching the first implant component to a tubular bone, especially in a region of the tubular bone close to a fracture or osteotomy. The first implant component further has a connection section, with the connection section being formed for insertion of a second implant component and immobilization of the second implant component in a position adjustable relative to the first implant component. The connection section comprises a guide device for the purpose of guiding the second implant component as the second implant component is being positioned relative to the first implant component. The guide device permits movement of the second implant component relative to the first implant component only in one direction relative to a longitudinal axis of the connection section. A third implant component, which matches the first implant component in functionality, is attached to the other end of the second implant component.

A bioabsorbable band system is provided. The system comprises a bioabsorbable elongated band and two locking member systems. This band system may be used to heal bone fractures or osteotomies.

A system and method are provided that use a formable bone plate and a clamping apparatus for small bone reconstruction. The formable bone plate includes a plate body having a plurality of nodes separated by internodes. Each node includes a hole formed therein for receiving a screw, wire, tack, or other fixation device screwed or placed into a bone. A clamp engages an engagement section of the node to facilitate bending of at least one of the internodes to contour the plate to the bone in-situ or ex-situ and when at least partly screwed to or not screwed to the bone.

A method and apparatus for forming an osteotomy in bone. The osteotomy opening is formed in a bone with a keyhole. A similarly configured implant is inserted into the opening with a key configured to engage the keyhole to provide stability and support to the osteotomy opening.

A method for performing a high tibial, dome osteotomy to adjust the lateral and/or angular disposition of the tibial plateau relative to the lower portion of the tibia, the method comprising: forming an arcuate osteotomy cut in the tibia to subdivide it into upper and lower portions; manipulating the upper and lower portions to adjust their lateral and/or angular dispositions relative to one another; forming a pair of keyholes along the osteotomy cut; forming a keyhole slot to connect the two keyholes; forming a fixation hole in the tibia for each keyhole; providing an implant comprising a pair of keys connected by a bridge, each key comprising a bore for receiving a fixation screw therein; inserting the implant so that the keys are disposed in the keyholes, and so that the bores of the keys are aligned with the fixation holes; and inserting fixation screws through the bores of the keys and into the fixation holes of the keyholes so as to stabilize the upper and lower portions of the tibia.

A maxillofacial anchoring and distraction system having an internally threaded anchoring or distraction fixture (12) and a selected length jack screw (14) for placement in an osteotomy. To minimize required bone height, a cut-away bone screw (16) or a solid mesh tip (17) is provided for insertion in bone in a direction generally perpendicular to the longitudinal axes of the anchoring and jack screws. A flat surface portion (16c, 17a) serves as a reaction surface for the distal end of the jack screw. In a second embodiment a sealing screw (24) is used with distraction fixture (20) modified to include a sealing surface. After completion of distraction the sealing screw is used to seal off the distraction fixture for conversion into an implant suitable for receiving conventional prosthetic components.

A bone re-angling device may be used in performing an osteotomy. The re-angling device may be a generally wedge-shaped body. The re-angling device maybe coupled to the bone using a fixation member.

An improved tibial plateau leveling osteotomy plate is disclosed. The plate is contoured in its proximal head portion to more closely resemble the structure of the tibial bone segment that is cut and rotated during the procedure. The plate also preferably has screw holes in the proximal head portion that are machined through the pre-contoured proximal head portion and are designed to angle the screw in a targeted screw path with respect to the osteotomy.

A method for making a dental implant by obtaining images of the tooth pre-atraumatic tooth extraction and post extraction and using those images to computer generate and mill a titanium replacement implant employing CAD/CAM equipment. The implant includes a scalloped neck interface similar to the replaced tooth's scalloped cementoenamel junction, a polished neck area between a root portion and a crown portion, and the numeral for the tooth number imprinted on the implant's facial surface. Chevron retention fins are provided on the root portion for engaging the bone of the tooth socket or osteotomy when the implant is tapped into position. Retention grooves are provided on the crown portion to which a provisional crown is cemented slightly out of occlusion at the time the implant is placed. The provisional crown will be replaced with a permanent crown after osteointegration of the implant has occurred.
