162 results about "Dental drill" patented technology

A dental drill or handpiece is a hand-held, mechanical instrument used to perform a variety of common dental procedures, including removing decay, polishing fillings, and altering prostheses. The handpiece itself consists of internal mechanical components which initiate a rotational force and provide power to the cutting instrument, usually a dental burr. The type of apparatus used clinically will vary depending on the required function dictated by the dental procedure. It is common for a light source and cooling water-spray system to also be incorporated into certain handpieces; this improves visibility, accuracy and overall success of the procedure.

Ultrasonically Powered Medical Devices and Systems, and Methods and Uses Thereof

The present invention provides a new family of ultrasonically powered medical devices and systems for powering such devices. Disclosed are methods for improving the overall power transfer efficiency of devices according to the present invention, as well as a wide variety of medical uses for such devices and systems. Devices of the present invention comprise a transducer that, during operation, converts electrical energy into high frequency, low amplitude mechanical vibrations that are transmitted to a driven-member, such as a wheel, that produces macroscopic rotary or linear output mechanical motions. Such motions may be further converted and modified by mechanical means to produce desirable output force and speed characteristics that are transmitted to at least one end-effector that performs useful mechanical work on soft tissue, bone, teeth and the like. Power systems of the present invention comprise one or more such handheld devices electrically connected to a power generator. Examples of powered medical tools enabled by the present invention include, but are not limited to, linear or circular staplers or cutters, biopsy instruments, suturing instruments, medical and dental drills, tissue compactors, tissue and bone debriders, clip appliers, grippers, extractors, and various types of orthopedic instruments. Devices of the present invention may be partly or wholly reusable, partly or wholly disposable, and may operate in forward or reverse directions, as well as combinations of the foregoing. The devices and systems of the present invention provide a safe, effective, and economically viable alternative source for mechanical energy, which is superior to AC or DC (battery) powered motors, compressed air or compressed gas, and hand powered systems.

Implant positioning device and method

The invention includes a method and apparatus to guide a dental drill to drill a bore into which a dental implant may be inserted at a particular axis. The dentist first takes an impression of a selected patient's dental arch. The cast dental arch is then formed from the impression. A dental professional then determines the desired location of the desired axis. A proxy implant having a proxy axis is placed in the cast dental arch with the proxy axis co-incident with the desired location of the desired axis. A stent is then formed of the tooth crowns from the cast dental arch. The stent has incorporated into it a locating barrel. A drill head with a drill alignment arm is provided to the dentist for fixation to a dental drill hand piece. The kit of parts provided to the dentist includes the stent with its incorporated locating barrel. The drill alignment arm provided to the dentist for attachment to the drill head and a plurality of drills. By using the stent with its incorporated locating barrel, the dentist's drill is guided into the desired location by interaction of the pin of the drill alignment arm with the locating barrel in the stent. By additionally controlling the length of the drills, the location, axis and depth of the drill hole made by the dentist will exactly coincide with the designed location, depth and orientation of the implant.

Antisuction device for high speed turbine toothdrill handpiece

ActiveCN105476722AIncrease braking areaImproves braking sensitivityBoring toolsEngineeringWear resistance
The invention relates to an antisuction device for a high speed turbine toothdrill handpiece. The antisuction device is mounted on one side, where the drill point is arranged, of the handpiece body; the antisuction device further comprises an elastic shaft seal cover, a non-elastic shaft seal cover and a metal ring, wherein the elastic shaft seal cover, the non-elastic shaft seal cover and the metal ring are sequentially connected, at the moment the toothdrill handpiece stalls, the elastic shaft seal cover is pressed towards the cone-shaped braking surface of a rotor shaft, so that prompt braking is realized, and antisuction is prevented; as the metal ring in the center of the elastic shaft seal cover is inflexible and higher in inner hole precision, the defect that the circulation area is decreased due to arc deformation of the elastic shaft seal cover after being inflated is overcome, the rotating speed and the output power losses are reduced, and the non-elastic shaft seal cover can prevent the elastic shaft seal cover from losing the elasticity due to excessive inflation; when braking is carried out, as the rotating speed of the rotor is quite low, the service life of the elastic shaft seal cover can be prolonged by adopting an elastic material with better abrasive resistance; besides, the antisuction device can effectively prevent antisuction to prevent tooth particles and liquid in the oral cavity from entering the toothdrill handpiece, so that the service life of the bearing in the toothdrill handpiece can be greatly prolonged.
