A dental drill or handpiece is a hand-held, mechanical instrument used to perform a variety of common dental procedures, including removing decay, polishing fillings, and altering prostheses. The handpiece itself consists of internal mechanical components which initiate a rotational force and provide power to the cutting instrument, usually a dental burr. The type of apparatus used clinically will vary depending on the required function dictated by the dental procedure. It is common for a light source and cooling water-spray system to also be incorporated into certain handpieces; this improves visibility, accuracy and overall success of the procedure.

Method and a device for practicing dental treatments

A method, system, device and an artificial tooth is disclosed for simulating both pain and anesthesia in a model of jaws. The tooth is equipped with sensors and connected to a data processing unit, memory unit and audiovisual display unit. The system is for teaching and practicing in the field of dentistry according to which removing artificial tooth or artificial bone substances by a dental drill, generates signals of pseudo pain with different intensities. Signals are fed to the data processing unit which simulates perception of the simulated pain and accordingly to said audio-visual display unit which simulates reaction to the different intensities of generated pseudo pain signals by playing different sounds which are stored in said memory unit. Furthermore, the system is able to simulate anesthesia by generating block signals as a result of applying different anesthetic techniques by means of a dental syringe connected to the system.

Dental handpiece

A dental handpiece is disclosed including a turbine construction creating a radial in flow of air onto the impeller blades about the whole circumference of the turbine. This generates additional torque and avoids asymmetrical thrust on the impeller wheel. A pair of axially spaced air bearings support the turbine. Air supply to the bearings is controlled in such a way that the air bearings are floated before drive air is supplied to the turbine and after drive air to the turbine has been shut off. This ensures that the air bearings are always operational irrespective of the operational state of the turbine. The handpiece has an improved ergonomic shape, especially the shape and configuration of the front or drive head, which provides additional tooth clearance and a better field of view. An angled swivel connection to the umbilical cord is provided which reduces physical strain on the dentist's wrist. A self adjusting lock and key type torque connection between the dental burr and the chuck is provided which accommodates both conventional burrs and the burr of the lock and key arrangement. An auto stop arrangement for the turbine is disclosed which prevents a vacuum buildup during run-down of the turbine. The specific construction of the auto stop valve in accordance with the invention closes both the drive and exhaust air conduits.

Antisuction device for high speed turbine toothdrill handpiece

The invention relates to an antisuction device for a high speed turbine toothdrill handpiece. The antisuction device is mounted on one side, where the drill point is arranged, of the handpiece body; the antisuction device further comprises an elastic shaft seal cover, a non-elastic shaft seal cover and a metal ring, wherein the elastic shaft seal cover, the non-elastic shaft seal cover and the metal ring are sequentially connected, at the moment the toothdrill handpiece stalls, the elastic shaft seal cover is pressed towards the cone-shaped braking surface of a rotor shaft, so that prompt braking is realized, and antisuction is prevented; as the metal ring in the center of the elastic shaft seal cover is inflexible and higher in inner hole precision, the defect that the circulation area is decreased due to arc deformation of the elastic shaft seal cover after being inflated is overcome, the rotating speed and the output power losses are reduced, and the non-elastic shaft seal cover can prevent the elastic shaft seal cover from losing the elasticity due to excessive inflation; when braking is carried out, as the rotating speed of the rotor is quite low, the service life of the elastic shaft seal cover can be prolonged by adopting an elastic material with better abrasive resistance; besides, the antisuction device can effectively prevent antisuction to prevent tooth particles and liquid in the oral cavity from entering the toothdrill handpiece, so that the service life of the bearing in the toothdrill handpiece can be greatly prolonged.

Dental Implants with Markers for Determining Three-Dimensional Positioning

Dental implants including radiopaque markers provided therein or thereon. The implant may also include customizable length characteristics. For example, a kit may include implants with different diameters (e.g., 3 diameters), where all of the implants are of a single (e.g., long) length. The appropriate diameter implant may be selected from the kit by the practitioner, and the long length implant may be cut (e.g., with a dental drill) to the appropriate length needed. The implants include radiopaque markers on or within the implant. For example, three series of markers may be provided on different “faces” of the implant, so that the three series of markers serve as reference points when scanning, allowing triangulation of the exact position of the implant in relation to the surrounding hard and soft oral tissues.
