In underwater diving, open water is unrestricted water such as a sea, lake or flooded quarries. It is the opposite of confined water (diving) (usually a swimming pool) where diver training takes place. Open water also means the diver has direct vertical access to the surface of the water in contact with the Earth's atmosphere. Open water diving implies that if a problem arises, the diver can directly ascend vertically to the atmosphere to breathe air. Penetration diving—involving entering caves or wrecks, or diving under ice—is therefore not "open water diving". In some contexts the lack of a decompression obligation is considered a necessary condition for classification of a dive as an open water dive, but this does not affect the classification of the venue as open water.

Method and system for predicting ship motion or the like to assist in helicopter landing

A method for a short-term prediction of future ship motion in open water to furnish visual cueing information that can be remotely presented to a pilot during an aircraft landing is described. Two sets of samples of the sea surface geometry along a radial azimuth line from a ship as a function of elevation of a sensor are first acquired. These are compensated to remove the components due to the ship's motion. Two wave traces are then separately derived in Cartesian format from the two sets of acquired samples. These wave traces are subjected to a Fast Fourier Transform to detect the amplitudes and phases of the individual wavelength components. The direction of the wavelength components is determined using a measure of their phase change in the scan direction during the time interval between the two scans together with their measured wavelength. The amplitude, direction and phase of each component is utilized together with the known motion characteristics of the moving ship in order to derive a short-term prediction of future ship motion in the time domain. A quiescent period of the ship motion is located by comparing the short-term prediction with the pre-defined operating limit criteria. Finally, a message signal is transmitted to the pilot of the aircraft indicating Time-to-Land and the duration of the quiescent period.

The pump jet which is composed of a thick guide pipe of an embedded motor stator, a motor annular rotor, an air gap, a pre-positioned stator and a post-positioned impeller is designed. The propelling efficiency is 0.589, the power is 3.7 MW and the pump jet can propel submersible vehicles with the navigational speed being 16 knots. The number of the stator blades is 13, the number of the impeller blades is 9, an NACA 16 wing type thickness distribution method is adopted for the stator blades and the impeller blades, and the impeller is highly skewed. The design method can be directly used for realizing shaftless electric propelling of unverwater vehicles, and is also suitable for shaft type pump jets and torpedo post-positioned stator type integrated motor pump jets.

The method comprises the following steps: enabling a monitoring ship to pass through a tail gas band of a monitored ship by adjusting the shipping direction of the monitoring ship relative to the monitored ship, sampling tail gas discharged by the monitored ship by an air quality continuous monitoring system arranged on the monitoring ship, acquiring the CO2 concentration and the polluted gas X concentration of the tail gas, calculating the polluted gas X discharge factor in the discharged tail gas of the monitored ship based on the discharge factor of oil consumption, comparing the polluted gas X discharge factor with the conventional regulated ship tail gas discharge standard, and determining whether the suspicion that discharge of the tail gas of the monitored ship exceeds standard exists or not. The method for performing mobile monitoring on the tail gas of the ship is suitable for big river open water, an efficient method is provided for monitoring the tail gas of the ship in the ship discharge control area in China, the check pertinence of anchored ships is improved, the efficiency is improved, and waste of manpower and financial resources caused by blind inspection is greatly reduced.

Natural forces power system

The two forces used are gravity and the atmospheric pressure. Gravity initiates the power phase by causing the water to fall from the elevated sealed water tank 10 to turn the turbine 32. The water lowers to 33.95 feet above ground level within the sealed water tank 10. A vacuum forms above the water. The water flows from the turbine into the elevated open water tank 46 to the level whereby its water outlet valve 26B opens. This affords a passage back into the elevated sealed water tank 10, through the check valve 40 and the manual shut-off valve 42. This initiates the recovery phase. The atmospheric pressure of 14.7 psi on the elevated open water tank 46 forces the water back into the sealed water tank 10 to relieve the vacuum. This pressure is capable to move the water up to 33.95 feet. Here it has only to move it up to 26.95 feet, realizing a 20.6 percent reserve force. With the water level again attaining maximum height in the sealed water tank 10, it is again released to repeat the cycle.
