635 results about "Fish hook" patented technology

A fish hook or fishhook is a device for catching fish either by impaling them in the mouth or, more rarely, by snagging the body of the fish. Fish hooks have been employed for centuries by anglers to catch fresh and saltwater fish. In 2005, the fish hook was chosen by Forbes as one of the top twenty tools in the history of man. Fish hooks are normally attached to some form of line or lure which connects the caught fish to the angler. There is an enormous variety of fish hooks in the world of fishing. Sizes, designs, shapes, and materials are all variable depending on the intended purpose of the fish hook. Fish hooks are manufactured for a range of purposes from general fishing to extremely limited and specialized applications. Fish hooks are designed to hold various types of artificial, processed, dead or live baits (bait fishing); to act as the foundation for artificial representations of fish prey (fly fishing); or to be attached to or integrated into other devices that represent fish prey (lure fishing).

Fishing lure and kit

A fishing lure is described, having a head with a release mechanism and a removable tail. Because the tail can be released, fish caught on hooks can be released quickly, and new tails with new hooks rapidly attached to the same head. Multiple tails may be equipped with different lure skirts, for different fish and / or different conditions, and rapidly changed out in the course of fishing. A tail including a drag chute released by a fish strike, attachable to the same head, is also disclosed. A dive wing, attachable to the removable tails, is also disclosed. Tails can include bait scent chambers and release holes and water jets to attract fish. A kit with combinations of heads, tails, dive wings, and other parts and accessories is also disclosed.

The fishing hook has a shank, a pointed hook portion formed at the lower end of the shank, and an eyelet formed at the upper end of the shank. The eyelet is formed by a generally D-shaped open loop that defines a cleft at the apex of the eyelet. The method of attaching a snell (a short leader line) to a fishing hook includes the steps of: forming a loop in a snell; passing the loop through the eyelet; rotating the fishing hook at least one full rotation to twist the loop; passing the loop over the open end of the eyelet; and pulling the snell to form a knot at the apex of the eyelet.

Spitting weedless surface fishing lure

InactiveUS20100050497A1BaitDecoyMinnow
A surface floating fishing lure including a forwards facing concave surface located at the water line, designed to scoop, redirect, and “spit” water into the air to subsequently splash unto the surface of the water when the fishing lure is tugged sharply, whereby a surface disturbance is created to attract fish hiding under cover of lily pads and other floating weeds or debris. This fishing lure shall include at least one fish hook rigged to be weedless, containing a flexible member deflecting weeds and debris away from each barbed point, a forwards facing concaved surface oriented in a manner predetermined to be suitable to redirect and splash a spray of water across the water surface, a floating body, a fish line connecting means at the forwards end of said fishing lure, and may, in some embodiments, further include at least a portion of said floating body in the form of a soft polymer flexible body in a shape resembling natural fish prey such as worms, frogs, minnows, centipedes, and etc.

Streamlined Counterbalanced Fishing Jig

InactiveUS20080250693A1Easy to useGreat incidenceBaitEngineeringFish hook
A fishing jig includes a fish hook integral construction with a center axis having a hook curve trailing extremity with a hook point, and a straight hook shank extending forwardly from the hook curve. An eye bend extends forwardly and upwardly at an eye bend radius point at an angle of substantially 20° relative to the axis of the hook shank, and terminating in a line-attachment eye leading extremity. A weighted metal body is connected to and distributed symmetrically along the hook shank and the eye bend. The body has a mass distribution which is greater below the center axis of the hook than above the center axis of the hook by creating a wedge on a lower portion of the body that counterbalances weight of the hook curve and the hook point. A center of gravity is defined above the wedge at substantially the eye bend radius point such that the jig assumes an upright position in which the hook shank is maintained and has a substantially horizontal attitude. The hook point lies in an uppermost position relative to the hook shank such that the jig will not tumble, spiral or rotate when attached on a fishing line.

A fishing hook enclosure apparatus includes a first container portion which includes exterior rod ring / reel attachment means and a first line access notch. A second container portion is attached to the first container portion by first-to-second attachment means which may include a hinge. The exterior rod ring / reel attachment means and the first line access notch are located at opposite ends of the first container portion. Preferably, the exterior rod ring / reel attachment means are in the form of a first attachment portion and a second attachment portion which define a push-through clip. Once a fishing lure and fishing hooks are contained inside the closed container formed by the first container portion and the second container portion in a closed condition, the fishing lure and the fishing hooks are prevented from snagging or hooking into any person or object in the environment surrounding the closed container.

Pivoting jig head for a fishing lure

InactiveUS20050246941A1Easy to replaceBaitDecoyWater flow
A jig head, to which a fishing lure may be attached, that can pivot on a fish hook or clip to attract fish as it is pulled through the water on a fishing line. There is a channel through the jig head, through which the fish hook or clip is inserted, so that the jig head (and the attached lure) can pivot on the hook or clip. As the fish hook is not permanently attached to the jig head, it will be easy to replace a worn or damaged hook, while reusing the jig head with a new hook. There may be a second channel through the jig head, through which water can flow, to further attract fish by the sound of the water flowing through the jig head and lure, and optionally to help disperse an attractive scent from the lure into the water.

Adjustable-depth crankbait fishing lure

An adjustable-depth crankbait fishing lure for use in catching fish at user-selectable depths. The crankbait fishing lure is made of a buoyant yet hard body having the shape and general appearance of a bait fish. Attached to the body are at least one fish hook and a means to attach the body to a fishing line. Pivotable lateral fins are located at each side of the body and are user adjustable for either water surface operation or operation at varying depths. A means is provided, substantially enclosed within the body, for allowing both the user to select the desired fin pitch corresponding to a specific water depth, and in some embodiments, for automatically returning the fins to the original pitch setting if the pitch setting is disturbed due to underwater snags or fish strikes. In addition, the fishing lure is designed so that the means for changing the fin pitch is protected against inadvertent changes due to fish strikes, snags, or other underwater menaces. Furthermore, one embodiment includes a new system for rotating a shaft through part of a rotation when another parallel shaft rotates through part of a rotation in the same direction; this system has applications beyond fishing lures.
