Abstract

The invention provides a sewing machine and a controlling method thereof capable of detecting abnormity of a main electromotor during normal operation. The sewing machine comprises the main electromotor and a current value detecting portion. The main electromotor enables a main shaft to rotate. The current value detecting portion is used for detecting current value of the main electromotor. The sewing machine carries out sewing operation by controlling rotation of the main electromotor and comprises a current value obtaining portion, a calculating portion, an accumulated value determining portion and a first controlling portion. The current value obtaining portion is used for obtaining current valve (S4) detected by a current value detecting portion. The calculating portion is used for calculating accumulated value (S5) by means of current value obtained from the current value obtaining portion and in the most recent prescribed period. The accumulated value determining portion is used for determining whether accumulated value calculated by the calculating portion is greater than threshold value (S6, S7) or not. When the accumulated value determining portion determines accumulated value to be greater than threshold value (S6:yes, S7:no), the first controlling portion stops to supply electricity (S14) to the main electromotor .
