Benefits of technology

This technology makes it easy for scientists to perform experiments on ocean-ice without damaging their equipment or causing damage during testing. It also allows researchers to accurately measure these parameters over time with high precision while maintaining an accurate record of the results obtained from this process.

Problems solved by technology

This patents discusses different ways to prepare frozen snow cores from natural materials such as peat crop residue (POR) that can be easily obtained through various techniques like drilling holes into these rocks. However, current methods involve expensive machinery and time-consuming processes due to their complexity and limitations. Additionally, some conventional mold systems were found prone to breakage when trying to crush brittle material made up mostly of ceramics, leading to poor quality ice samples being prepared.

Embodiment 1

[0032] (1). First, coat a layer of Vaseline on the inner wall of each stainless steel pipe to reduce the friction between the ice sample and the steel pipe;

[0033] (2). Put the stainless steel tube vertically into the plastic bucket, then pour water, and the water surface is immersed in the stainless steel tube as shown;

[0034] (3). Put the plastic bucket in the ultra-low temperature freezer, set the temperature, and freeze for 24 hours;

[0035] (4). Sampling: Take out the plastic bucket from the freezer, and turn the plastic bucket upside down to slide out the entire ice body;

[0036] (5). Hit the ice body to break the ice body, take out the stainless steel tube,

[0037] (6).Press one end of the stainless steel tube with your thumb, and forcefully push out the ice sample;

[0038] (7). Observe the obtained cylindrical ice sample, use a ruler to measure the part with a length of 110mm and less cracks and air bubbles, and mark it;

[0039] (8). Cut off at the mark, an...

Abstract

The invention discloses a method for making an ice sample applied to the field of river ice or sea ice mechanical parameter testing. Needed devices comprise a stainless steel pipe, an ultralow-temperature refrigerator or an ice maker, an electric saw, a plastic straight ruler, a wood planing blade, a pair of heat-insulating gloves, Vaseline, a plastic bucket and water. The method is simple in operating procedure, short in making period and low in making cost. Moreover, the integrity of the ice sample and the accuracy of a final experiment result can be well protected, the preparation of the ice sample is not limited by seasons or regions, and a good cylindrical ice sample is provided for rice ice or sea ice mechanical parameter testing.
