Embodiment Construction

[0017] A portion of a conveyor belt embodying features of the invention is figure 1 shown in . The exemplary belt 10 is a modular plastic conveyor belt comprised of rows 12 of one or more belt modules 14 , 16 hingedly linked together at hinged joints 18 by hinged rods 20 . The hinge elements 22, 23 are interdigitated at opposite ends of each row. Aligned holes 24 in the staggered hinge elements receive the hinge rods. Plastic modules are traditionally injection molded from thermoplastic polymers such as acetal, polypropylene, polyethylene, nylon or composite polymers.

[0018] The conveyor belt 26 is preferably a perforated belt with perforations 26 extending through the thickness of the belt and opening on the outer conveyor surface 28 of the belt and its opposite bottom side 30 . The size of the perforations is small enough to prevent entry of individual batches conveyed on top of the conveying surface, and the perforations are sufficiently numerous to provide the belt wi...

Abstract

A belt conveyor includes a conveyor belt having a hollow injector for injecting a processing fluid into a conveyed batch layer, and a method of injecting a processing fluid into the conveyed batch layer on the conveyor belt.

Description

Background technique [0001] The present invention relates generally to motorized conveyors, particularly belt conveyors having injectors for injecting process fluid into layers of batch products. [0002] Conveyor belts are used to move bulk food such as corn and peas through processing equipment such as blanchers, cookers, coolers, and freezers. Products are piled up on the outer conveying side of the conveyor belt. It is often important that the processing device processes the product pile evenly through the depth of the product pile or that all products undergo at least a minimum level of processing. For example, a culinary process may require a minimum temperature anywhere in the stack of products. With the product layer on the conveyor belt advancing through the cooker, the product somewhere in the middle of the depth of the product layer is at a cold spot where the temperature finally reaches the lowest temperature class. One way to ensure that products that are in co...
