Embodiment Construction

[0063] As noted above, the subject matter disclosed herein relates to turbomachine systems. More specifically, the subject matter disclosed herein relates to methods for viewing (eg, repairing) gas turbine components.

[0064] As described herein, in some turbomachines, hot isostatic pressing (HIP) is used to maintain (eg, process and / or repair) components, such as nozzles and buckets. It can be useful to determine the effectiveness of the HIP process for components. Typically, to determine the effectiveness of the HIP process on a component, destructive testing is used to determine the creep void or porosity of the component before and after the HIP process. This destructive testing can be expensive and time consuming. Furthermore, in some cases, destructive testing may require sending components to outside suppliers, which may cause delays and issues with know-how control.

[0065] Various embodiments of the present invention include approaches to analyzing the HIP proces...

Abstract

Various embodiments of the invention include methods for monitoring a gas turbine component. In some cases, a method includes: analyzing a gas turbomachine component to detect at least one of a void or a porosity of the gas turbomachine component while maintaining a structural integrity of the gas turbomachine component during the analyzing; and providing instructions to perform a hot isostatic pressing (HIP) process on the gas turbomachine component in response to at least one of detecting the void or detecting that the porosity exceeds a threshold.

Description

technical field [0001] The subject matter disclosed herein relates to turbine systems. More specifically, the subject matter disclosed herein relates to gas turbine system observations. Background technique [0002] Turbines (eg, gas turbines and / or steam turbines) operate at high temperatures and pressures, which can cause materials in those turbines to degrade, and sometimes fail. In some turbomachines, eg, gas turbines, components are maintained (eg, treated and / or repaired) using a hot isostatic pressing (HIP) process. HIP is a manufacturing process sometimes used to reduce the porosity of metals (and increase the density of ceramic materials). HIP improves the mechanical properties and workability of materials. HIP involves subjecting a component to elevated temperature and isobaric gas pressure in a high pressure containment vessel, eg, using an inert gas. [0003] In some turbines, HIP is used to maintain (eg, process and / or repair) components such as nozzles and ...
