Abstract

The present invention provides an adhesive spacer for sliding positioning of components in an assembly. By sliding the parts into place, an adhesive bond can be formed between the parts without rubbing or removing the uncured adhesive. Here, the first bonded region has uncured adhesive and a plurality of bonded spacers positioned adjacent to the second bonded region. The adhesive spacer facilitates sliding between the first and second components while substantially retaining the uncured adhesive during sliding. The bonded spacers may be formed on the surface, for example by molding or stamping. The first and second bonding areas are slid into engagement followed by application of pressure, heat and / or energy as needed to form a strong adhesive bond. Also utilizing such techniques is provided a method of repairing manufactured parts, including the ability to slide parts into place using bonded spacers cured on a base part formed as adhesive tape or tacks driven into a composite base part, without removing uncured adhesive.
