Abstract

The present invention relates to a code rate control method for a streaming media gateway, wherein the stream media gateway comprises a data receiving module, a data transmission module and a buffer, and the data receiving module can control the average transmission rate of an upstream data source. The method comprises: turning on the data receiving module, requesting data from the upstream data source, and adding the data to a buffer queue; monitoring the length of the buffer queue, activating the data sending module when a first threshed is reached, getting data from the buffer queue, and starting to transmit data to downstream in a predetermined code rate of the data stream; continuously monitoring the length of the buffer queue, and turning off the data receiving module if the length exceeds an upper warning length and the data receiving module is activated; turning on the data receiving module if the length is less than a moderate length and the data receiving module is turned off; transmitting, by the upstream data source, the data in a rate greater than the current average sending rate if the length is less than a lower warning length and the data receiving module is activated.
