Method and apparatus for measuring reporting channel state information in a high efficiency, high performance communications system

Channel state information (CSI) can be used by a communications system to precondition transmissions between transmitter units and receiver units. In one aspect of the invention, disjoint sub-channel sets are assigned to transmit antennas located at a transmitter unit. Pilot symbols are generated and transmitted on a subset of the disjoint sub-channels. Upon receipt of the transmitted pilot symbols, the receiver units determine the CSI for the disjoint sub-channels that carried pilot symbols. These CSI values are reported to the transmitter unit, which will use these CSI values to generate CSI estimates for the disjoint sub-channels that did not carry pilot symbols. The amount of information necessary to report CSI on the reverse link can be further minimized through compression techniques and resource allocation techniques.

High efficiency high performance communications system employing multi-carrier modulation

Transmitter and receiver units for use in a communications system and configurable to provide antenna, frequency, or temporal diversity, or a combination thereof, for transmitted signals. The transmitter unit includes a system data processor, one or more modulators, and one or more antennas. The system data processor receives and partitions an input data stream into a number of channel data streams and further processes the channel data streams to generate one or more modulation symbol vector streams. Each modulation symbol vector stream includes a sequence of modulation symbol vectors representative of data in one or more channel data streams. Each modulator receives and modulates a respective modulation symbol vector stream to provide an RF modulated signal, and each antenna receives and transmits a respective RF modulated signal. Each modulator may include an inverse (fast) Fourier transform (IFFT) and a cyclic prefix generator. The IFFT generates time-domain representations of the modulation symbol vectors, and the cyclic prefix generator repeats a portion of the time-domain representation of each modulation symbol vector. The channel data streams are modulated using multi-carrier modulation, e.g., OFDM modulation. Time division multiplexing (TDM) may also be used to increase flexibility.

Virtual machine communication method based on shared memory

The invention discloses a virtual machine communication method based on a shared memory. A communication channel is established between guest virtual machines on a same host machine by management modules arranged in the guest virtual machines, the channel comprises two virtual shared memory circular queues for receiving and sending data and an event channel for sending an event signal. Two sharedmemory circular queues are maintained for each pair of guest virtual machines in a Xen virtual machine monitor, two sides of compunction map local shared memory circular queues into the two queues, and furthermore, a data channel with high bandwidth is realized. A virtual machine discovery module in a privileged virtual machine can maintain an event channel table in the Xen virtual machine monitor for collecting the information of all guest virtual machines on the same host machine; in addition, a copy of the event channel table is locally maintained on each guest virtual machine and is updated in fixed time, thereby providing necessary information for communication. The guest virtual machine acquires the information of a communication channel of a communication destination by querying the event channel table and realizes high-performance communication between virtual machines through the communication channel.

A TDD antenna array S-CDMA system for increasing the capacity and quality of a wireless communications is disclosed. By simultaneous exploiting the spatial and code diversities, high performance communications between a plurality of remote terminals and a base station is achieved without sacrificing system flexibility and robustness. The time-division-duplex mode together with the inherent interference immunity of S-CDMA signals allow the spatial diversity to be exploited using simple and robust beamforming rather than demanding nulling. Measurements from an array of receiving antennas at the base station are utilized to estimate spatial signatures, timing offsets, transmission powers and other propagation parameters associated with a plurality of S-CDMA terminals. Such information is then used for system synchronization, downlink beamforming, as well as handoff management. In an examplary embodiment, the aforementioned processing is accomplished with minimum computations, thereby allowing the disclosed system to be applicable to a rapidly varying environment. Among many other inherent benefits of the present invention are large capacity and power efficiency, strong interference / fading resistance, robustness power control, and easy hand-off.

In a communication method such as IEEE 802.11a that uses a short training sequence, a wireless receiver must complete AGC, synchronization establishment and the like in the short training sequence period, and perform AFC is the remaining short training sequence period. With the present invention, a wireless transmitter varies the length of the training sequence in accordance with a factor such as a communication frame or a transmission destination. For instance, when a transmission rate is greater than a predetermined threshold value, a training sequence that includes a greater number of training symbols than a predetermined number is transmitted. The wireless receiver is able to allocate the training sequence that is longer than normal to AGC, synchronization establishment and the like, and therefore high performance communication can be realized.
