A communication channel is established between guest virtual machines on a same host machine by management modules arranged in the guest virtual machines, the channel comprises two virtual shared memory circular queues for receiving and sending data and an event channel for sending an event signal. Two sharedmemory circular queues are maintained for each pair of guest virtual machines in a Xen virtual machine monitor, two sides of compunction map local shared memory circular queues into the two queues, and furthermore, a data channel with high bandwidth is realized. A virtual machine discovery module in a privileged virtual machine can maintain an event channel table in the Xen virtual machine monitor for collecting the information of all guest virtual machines on the same host machine; in addition, a copy of the event channel table is locally maintained on each guest virtual machine and is updated in fixed time, thereby providing necessary information for communication. A method and computer program product for providing survivor income-replacement benefits having a guaranteed rate of interest with the possibility of a higher income stream to the designated survivor if supported by prevailing interest rates at the time of annuitization. In one embodiment, the insured would purchase either a fixed level dollar amount of monthly income for a fixed period of time or a Cost of Living Adjusted (COLA) benefit in the form of a monthly annuity. The insurance carrier is required to contractually guarantee a minimum rate of interest, e.g., 3% at the time of annuitization. The insurance carrier is further required to apply the same discount rate to the annuity contract that is provided to the best commercially available immediate annuity contract the carrier offers at the time of annuitization, subject to the minimum guaranteed rate of interest. Thus, the beneficiary may receive an increased income stream if the relevant interest rate at the time of the purchaser's death exceeds the guaranteed minimum interest rate. Thus, if the insured purchased a survivor benefit under the inventive method with a 3% guaranteed minimum COLA, and if the best commercially available immediate annuity interest rate is 6%, the benefit paid the beneficiary survivor is increased annually at a rate of 6%. The sensor is used by connecting to a measurer for determining a capacitance on the electrodes, such that the capacitance directly reflects a volume occupied by the sample of the liquid. Preferably, the liquid is blood and the capacitance is used to determine the clotting time of the blood. Also preferably, a cover for the chamber is provided with at least one aperture, which more preferably is a mesh. Alternatively, an electrical property such as the amplitude of current passed through the sample is used to determine clotting time. Also preferably, the time period required for the maximum capacitance to be reached could be measured. Alternatively, the capacitance could be measured after a fixed time period (34) had elapsed. Also alternatively, the time period required for the maximum current to be reached could be measured, or the amount of current could be measured after a fixed time period had elapsed. In preferred embodiments of the present invention, a kit for measuring the clotting time of blood is provided. In other preferred embodiments of the present invention, methods are provided for using the kit and device of the present invention.

Fixed deterministic post-backoff for cyclic prioritized multiple access (CPMA) contention-free sessions

A cyclic prioritized multiple access (CPMA) method is disclosed which includes Fixed Deterministic Post-Backoff. Fixed deterministic post-backoff reduces conflicts between access points of overlapping cells. Contention-free sessions (CFSs) can be generated, one from each overlapping cell. Each active access point engages in a fixed deterministic post-backoff. A fixed deterministic backoff delay (Bkoff times a fixed number of idle time slots) is used by all access points, with the value of Bkoff being greater than the number of overlapping cells. The Bkoff should be large enough to enable the traffic that needs to be accommodated by the channel. Each access point has a backoff timer that is counted down using the shortest interframe space possible, typically the Priority Interframe Space (PIFS). A contention-free session (CFS) is initiated when the backoff timer expires, and it is then reset to the value of Bkoff to start a new cycle. A cycle is measured in terms of idle time slots instead of a fixed time interval. Contention-based transmissions can be attempted by an access point or other stations in the cell using their assigned priority while the access point is counting down its backoff timer. A new access point can get started and resolve possible collisions by a small random backoff. Subsequent contention-free sessions (CFSs) will not conflict, given an existing sequence of non-conflicting CFSs, since the follower access point's backoff delay exceeds that of the leader's by at least one times the fixed number of idle time slots. In this manner, contention-free sessions can be conducted without interference in the first and second cells.
