Abstract

A rotary actuator (60) for control of variable geometry vanes (33, 37, 41) is provided. The actuator is rotary so that operating components are internalized to protect fuel from contamination. The rotary actuator (60) is a self-contained unit so that the device may be removed from the gas turbine engine (10) without requiring removal of additional fuel system components. Finally, some embodiments of the rotary actuator (60) may comprise multiple actuator loops to provide adjustment for two or more rows of vanes, independently.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This non-provisional application asserts, under 35 U.S.C. § 119(e), U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. filed on August 28, 2014, entitled "Rotary Actuator for Variable Geometry Vanes." 62 / 043131, which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety. technical field [0003] The present embodiments generally relate to the actuation of vanes in a gas turbine engine. More specifically, the present embodiments relate to, but are not limited to, rotary actuators for the actuation of one or more sets of guide vanes of a gas turbine engine. Background technique [0004] In a gas turbine engine, air is pressurized in a compressor and mixed with fuel in a combustor for generating hot combustion gases that flow downstream through the turbine stages. A gas turbine engine typically possesses a front end and an aft end with several cores or propulsion members positioned axially therebetween. An air inlet or inlet is l...
