Abstract

Methods are provided for selecting a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) mode based on energy efficiency and selecting a subset of antennas to be used in communication in a wireless communication system using multi-user massive multiple antennas. The method selects a subset of antennas that minimizes the transmission power without using all antennas based on power consumption and transmission power caused by radio frequency (RF) circuits. The method also includes selecting a mobile station to which a signal is to be transmitted, selecting a multi-antenna technique based on power consumption of all antennas, selecting a subset of antennas among all antennas to transmit a signal to the mobile station, and transmitting a signal to the mobile station by using the antenna subset .
