Content can range from software patches to digital movies, among many other forms of content. The proxy cache device is a relatively high-speed device compared to the various possible devices that make up one or more edge clusters. Therefore, if the proxy already caches the requested content, it can serve client content requests directly at a faster rate than serving content from an edge cluster. Otherwise, the proxy cache can request content from the edge cluster and store the content for fast retrieval in response to additional requests for content. In one embodiment, the proxy cache may perform an analysis of the request or series of requests to determine whether the content is cached at the proxy cache device.
